I’m going to go straight out and say this is the most badly designed hotel room that I have ever stayed in. As soon as you walk into the room you are met with the bed which is in the middle of the room but sadly offset to the rest of the room. Then I look for somewhere to put my suitcase, but of course there isn’t anywhere. There is a small table that is the desk and two hard wooden chairs. Above the table is a large glass light which you bash your head on when standing up from the table. The room has a lot of buttons to control the lights and the window blinds and shutters. I needed to shave at this hotel but firstly there is no mirror in front of the sink, there is a shaving mirror on the wall near the sink but it’s useless as it doesn’t reach the sink. Also there is no plug for the sink to keep the water in. In my room there is one glass tumbler at the sink so I used this to cover the plug and stop the water flowing away as I washed my face. There is a small kettle and a capsule coffee machine but strangely two large paper cups. I for one am not going to drink my coffee from a paper cup, not in France at least. I did venture to the breakfast. This is very hit and miss. You seat yourself and the view is indeed wonderful as you are on the 25th floor. The waiters are all dressed in black trousers with a crisp white shirt and black tie, but show little interest in their customers. I made my tea and checked out the hot food offering. This was sad, the scrambled eggs were powdered and dried out. I asked for some poached eggs to be told this wasn’t possible so I boiled some eggs in the egg boiler. I wanted some toast but they have put the toaster behind a pillar and so you have to lean in to use this. I put some bread on to toast but when I returned for my toast another hotel guest had removed my toast. I told her that I didn’t want my food touched, but she didn’t seem to understand this request. There was some cheese and meat as you would expect in France. but I thought the breakfast to be poor for what is a hotel trying to be upmarket. You can do so much better than this hotel but if you want the view then this is for you, but there is nothing else. Whoever designed this hotel has clearly never, ever spent a night here. Is that you Mr Starck?

Nice rooftop bar with view of the city. Friday night was popping! The music is really loud inside so it’s a bit hard to talk to friends. But if you can get a table outside on the patio, the view is beautiful and the vibe is more chill and less noisy. Service was good and cocktails were fine.

In a luxury hotel, at this price point, one would expect at least the basic toiletries. Well, not here. No conditioner. No lotion. Cheap shampoo and body wash. That alone will turn me off this family of hotels. It’s supposed to be a home away from home, but they don’t even provide basic grooming needs. Moral of the story: bring your own. Which defeats the point.
