Alila Ubud

Our stay at Alila Ubud was nothing short of perfection, truly a five-star experience. From the moment we arrived, everything felt effortless and serene. The room was absolutely divine: beautifully designed, peaceful, and surrounded by lush jungle views that made it hard to leave. The food was immense, every meal was thoughtfully prepared, full of flavor, and a genuine highlight of our stay. Whether it was breakfast overlooking the tropical forest or dinner under the stars, it was consistently exceptional. What truly made the experience unforgettable, though, was the staff. They were beyond amazing, warm, attentive, and always going above and beyond to make us feel special. We left feeling completely relaxed and already dreaming of coming back. Alila Ubud is something truly special.

Soothing forest setting. World’s best breakfast. Exceptional and consistent service. I close this based on the website’s main forest picture and I wasn’t disappointed. The natural forest setting is so 3D and unreal. I came for a “detox” trip and it helped the process. Food was made by people for people. There’s no mass produced buffet type of food for main course. Staff is exceptional- kind n polite without being too “clinical”. As a bonus it’s also just around 20 minutes drive to Ubud town where you can return to civilisation n get all the great food, shipping, drinks n massages.

We had a fantastic stay at Alila Ubud and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, high-quality retreat surrounded by nature. The room was beautiful, with traditional Balinese architecture that really added to the overall experience. A lovely touch we hadn’t experienced before was the nightly turndown service from housekeeping—it felt like a little luxury surprise each evening. Breakfast was a real highlight. The setup is unique and works brilliantly: a buffet of fresh fruits, yoghurt, and local juices, excellent coffee, and a daily selection of breads and pastries brought to your table. On top of that, you can order small plates of hot food from a menu that changes each day, which keeps things interesting and allows you to try a variety of dishes. The infinity pool is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views over the jungle valley, and the drive into the hotel through rice paddy fields sets the tone from the moment you arrive. The staff throughout the hotel were incredibly attentive and friendly, always going above and beyond. We also really enjoyed the complimentary afternoon tea in the Cabana Lounge each day—a lovely added touch. The cocktails were excellent, and the food across the hotel was consistently high quality. The Indonesian dishes in the main restaurant were particularly delicious, while the Cabana Lounge offers great Western options with an Asian twist, perfect for a more relaxed meal. The couples massage at the spa was another standout experience—truly relaxing and a great addition to the stay. One thing to be aware of: the monkeys! They roam freely around the hotel and will try to steal food, so it’s best to keep balcony doors closed. Prices are what you’d expect for a five-star hotel—on the higher side for the area—but this is balanced by the quality of the experience and the fact that the hotel is quite secluded, with limited nearby dining options. Overall, an incredible stay in a beautiful setting with exceptional service.

The pool and jungle setting are the highlights of this resort. It is just as stunning as the photos. We spent most of today our time by the pool, where there were plenty of comfortable sun lounges with large towels and shade unbrellas, as well as beanbags. All the views were breathtaking. We stayed in a hillside room, with a small balcony with equally stunning views to the jungle and pool. While the room was clean and comfortable, it was quite small by Bali resort standards. The aircon worked well but was very loud, impacting our sleep. We liked the bathrobes and slippers, but were relieved that we had brought along our own pool/beach bag, as there was no bag provided for taking a few items to the pool. This is rarely provided at resorts, but always a nice touch when it is eg Maya. We booked a Luxury Escapes package, which included 2 90 minute massages (fantastic!), breakfast (delicious and changing daily, mix of buffet and à la carte) and daily lunch or dinner. The latter was where we felt let down. We had to order from a set menu of 4 starters, 4 mains (2 chicken, 2 fish) and 4 desserts - this was the same every day and the same at both restaurants, which got very boring very quickly, especially as I don’t eat fish. The food was tasty and a mix of local and Western, but just not enough variety. So much so, that we paid for an upgrade to one of their specialty dinners one night for some variety (although overpriced) and took their free shuttle into town one night for dinner at Nusantara (which was amazing - highly recommend). With the set menu, also including one cocktail from reduced list (fine), on two occasions we were waiting a ridiculously long time for our first course to arrive (up to one hour!!), and felt a bit like second class citizens. If we return to Alila, we would definitely avoid the lunch/dinner package in future, but are definitely likely to return based on the location, setting, staff and pool. Shout out to the very friendly Kandi in the spa, who also taught me some Indonesian and answered all my questions about school and festivals while getting my mani pedi.

I'm a travel agent who took a group of 17 (ages mid 40's to early 60s) to Bali. I reserved this resort with no previous experience or recommendation. It was based solely on research and Instagram. The location and staff far exceeded expectations. My group felt the same way. The restaurant went above and beyond (ABOVE AND BEYOND) to accommodate my group for meals daily, and also was highly anticipative to my dietary needs (gluten fee). Very knowledgeable and cautious. I had the best 90 minute massage of my life! Our stay was overall OUTSTANDING. I cannot recommend this resort anymore. You will not be disappointed staying here. It's beautiful!
