My daughters and I had an amazing SPA experience! Sauna and traditional massage with Malik 5 star
Beautiful hotel great staff Had an amazing massage at the spa with Daya Amazing
One of the best hotel in Sanur. Very good for family with kids. Huge swimming pool, just in fron of the ocean. Perfect garden. Very big rioms with balcon. We took SPA : very nice and good. Thank you
I had an extraordinary experience while on assignment at this hotel. The room prepared for the Minister was truly top-notch; both the room itself and the hotel corridors were spotless. I was assisted by a butler named Jeni. She was lovely, friendly, and kind, also pretty funny. The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere, and the lobby is very unique. I could even enjoy an ocean view from my room. It is truly an outstanding resort to stay.
Stunning! It is the only word I can use at this stage. We arrived at the vehicle reception area and our luggage disappeared. Good start. We were directed down a huge wide set of stairs and along the most amazing passageway to reception. Alcoves were set into the walls of the passageway with the most amazing sculptures, reflected on all four sides in the polished stone under a constant waterfall. At the end was the reception hall/lounge with a number of reception staff ready to whisk you away to your room. Reception was easy, apart from the 1 000 000 IDR per day holding deposit (I am still waiting to have it removed from my card a week after we got home, but that’s another story, not to detract from The Meru). We were taken up a long wide ramp to the hotel proper. I thought it was stunning before but this where the stunning starts! Everything is timber and stone with luxuriant tropical growth everywhere you look. The accommodation is over three levels, we are on level 2 it can be reached by lift but there are interconnecting stairs everywhere. I have never seen so much stone, of various types, in the pathways and passages. You need to see the staff very early in the morning with electric floor polishers polishing the outside paths, every day. It is this small attention to detail that makes The Meru unique. That and the staff, there are loads of them, for everything; gardeners, porters, waiters, towel boys, they are everywhere, all smiling and all will greet you in English. I speak some Bahasa so they reacted even more so to my feeble attempts . The room Finally, we reach our room, sorry suite. There is a large reception area with bar and kitchenette, through to the bedroom with a huge bed, couch, bedside tables and a huge TV and desk area. This opens out onto a large deck with lounge and table (only one chair which I thought was strange). The whole wall is floor to ceiling glass doors and windows with double curtains. Through to the bathroom and dressing area. Immediately in front is a large sink unit while to the right is the bathroom complete with a beautiful wet room and a large ”exposed” bath. I say exposed as it is open to the view through the window. I think we are pretty safe on the second floor and with the amount of foliage/jungle up to the balcony. To the left is the toilet and dressing area. If I have a complaint it is in regard to the dressing area. There is very little actual storage space apart from a couple of baskets. There is one shelf that is too high to reach and for me, at 170cm, I was standing on tip toe to reach the coat hangers in the ample open wardrobe. Anyone shorter than me would have had real difficulty. The piece de resistance is the fully automated toilet. Open the door and the seat rises, the heated seat of course – in a tropical country? Of course you use a remote to adjust flows and heights and to flush etc. I must admit I did look up the cost for home. If I had another criticism of the room is the expansive TV programs, most of which you would never use as they are in foreign languages. Access to streaming services would have been a better option, in my opinion. The only consolation was access to the Australian ABC, but who wants depressing news when you are on holiday? The facilities I mentioned the lounge before when we arrived. This is a large semi open area again with statuary and waterfalls, of course. This also was the area each night that Luxury Escapes (LE) hold their nightly open bar and snacks from 5-7 pm as part of their package. How they do this I will never know. It really is an open bar. You can have whatever you want and as much as you want. It must cost a fortune, but we never missed a night. There are two pools. I huge one in front of the restaurant for use by the Bali Beach Hotel and The Meru and another smaller on just for the Meru. This one has a small café/bar for the patrons. There never seemed to be enough lounges and umbrellas, as usual, but hardly anyone used the pool. Both of these pools opened onto the wide walkway that runs the length of Sanur beach. There is a hedge running the length and security guards stationed along the fenceline. There was a pool bar near the main pool and another beach bar/restaurant on the sand to the front of the hotel. They held a number of shows at the beach bar and it was a change from the inside restaurants. I have mentioned the Bali Beach hotel a number of times. It was the first high rise hotel on the Sanur beachfront from the sixties. The Meru was built alongside it two years ago. Together they have more than eight hectares of land so there is plenty of grassed areas to relax in. It is quite deceiving at times as you don’t realise you are under the Bali Beach when it appears you are still in the Meru. The grounds and common areas for both are immaculately maintained and presented. There is a very good spa and I took advantage of the LE package and enjoyed a very relaxing massage in a beautiful setting. Restaurants The main restaurant for both is Arunika. It is a huge area with a lot of friendly staff. After checking in you will be taken to a table, even though it was always busy they never failed to find us a table. For breakfast the choices are amazing. There is Japanese, Indian, Indonesian, Western and healthy stuff, and plenty of it, all set up as buffet or cooked to order. There is an A la Carte menu at nighttime which is quite extensive, same for lunchtime not that we went at lunchtime. In most cases the staff would offset your choices against the LE menu coming out to nil charge. Of course they made up for it with the drinks menu. Again, quite extensive but costly. Hey, you are on holiday in a five star resort, what do you expect. The other restaurant is Roso which is in the Bali Beach on the mezzanine floor. This is an Indonesian restaurant that we visited a couple of times. It is very well set up with friendly staff and a good menu. We took advantage of a booking at Roso for the AFL Grand Final. It did seem strange having AFL GF in an Indonesian restaurant, but it was a great day. Strictly divided; Lions to the left, Dockers to the right with two big screens. Mutual abuse was acceptable. Great food, attentive staff who could not have had a clue what the noise was about, and lots of Bintang. What’s not to love? It happened to be my wife’s birthday (I won’t say how old) while we were there and she celebrated it three times on the one day. At breakfast the staff came out singing and presenting her with a cake, the Roso did the same but to top it off the cleaning boy made a beautiful towel birthday tribute on our bed, with yet another cake in the fridge. They really do it well. Conclusion This is a wonderful five star hotel. It is very busy but doesn’t seem it. There are staff everywhere to cater to your every wish, all smiling all friendly, from the large grounds team to the pool guys, waiters and office staff it was a great experience. It is not cheap, but shout yourself, this is a one-off experience.
