Hotel Riva del Sole - Adults Only

Another couple and my husband and I stayed in the hotel for five nights in September. We got a good deal on secret escapes, dinner, bed and breakfast. I’ll start off with the pros of the hotel On the whole the hotel was basically clean The swimming pool was clean a bit chilly, but with plenty of sunbeds and shade Breakfast on the whole was good with a choice of eggs each day such as omelettes scrambled egg There was a lovely lady in reception who sorted out taxis for us and she was very pleasant and pregnant. The shower was amazing with different shower heads and with some good pressure. With our package, we were given a free wine tour which we thoroughly enjoyed although the wine wasn’t to our taste the gentleman giving the tour was very funny and personable. The taxi there and back did cost us €70 . The cons The food on the half board menu was very limited, extremely small portions, there was a choice of a meat dish, a vegetarian dish and a fish dish each night. There was a choice of two desserts on the menu one of which was described as seasonal fruits. We opted for that one evening and got a bowl of grapes. Needless to say after the three nights we decided we would eat out for the last two nights and had the most amazing meals along the lakefront. On our second night we chose the fried chicken thigh when it came to the table I cut into it and it was raw not just pink, bloody and raw I checked my husbands his was the same. This totally put us off having the chicken and unfortunately we didn’t like the other two choices on the menu, we weren’t offered any alternative until we went down and spoke to the lovely receptionist at the front desk, then we were offered the meal we had the previous night. Nobody apologised to us for the undercooked food in fact the staff didn’t really seem bothered but had we eaten it we would’ve been extremely sick. The next night we have the chicken breast which came with green beans and was stone cold, one of our friends for her main meal got half a beef tomato with a couple of slices of aubergine and some breadcrumbs on the top. The rooms are very dated and I understand it was towards the end of the season, but the net curtains were dirty and the room just needed a general update. There isn’t really a bar to sit in in the evening and the bar around the pool was only open until 6:30 pm The hotel had booked transfers for us, but once we arrived at Verona Airport, it hadn’t arrived so we waited and waited and eventually rang the hotel to be told the transfer was still about 20 minutes away which actually turned into 50 minutes. We did have other issues with taxis that they arranged, but I won’t go into that. Moniga del Garda is a lovely village and good restaurants and bars along the lake front, it is very quiet with limited ferries but overall nice for a short quiet stay.

We spent a week at RS RIva del Sol in a classic room on the ground floor which was arranged by the hotel as my husband suffers with arthritic knees. The room, although tired, served its purpose, and we were grateful for the consideration to my husband by the hotel. The room was cleaned daily. The hotel has a very friendly atmosphere, with staff who were always happy to assist when help and guidance was needed. In particular, a big shout out to Claudia and Jonida on reception, and Sara & Monica and the other ladies in the restaurant and bar. We booked half board and food was ample. At breakfast, there was something to suit everyone! My husband has a sweet tooth and was in seventh heaven with the variety of sweet options he treated himself to after his breakfast! For me, I loved the nuts, seeds, fruit and yoghurt offered. After this, it was a joy to watch my omelette being freshly cooked in front of me, otherwise I went for the continental meats and cheeses! Evening meals were varied, and offered 3 options for starters and mains, and two dessert options. I loved the pasta starter choices, the mains where I would always choose the fish option, and the fresh fruit for dessert …. (except allowing myself the Tiramisu one evening, which was delicious!) The hotel pool was lovely, with a bar to order drinks, food and ice cream from. Plenty of sunbeds, chairs & parasols, and a choice to sit poolside if you were quick enough, or under the olive tree grassed area. We both also enjoyed massages during our stay! The beach was just a short walk from the hotel. I found it comical to be swimming in the lake with the many ducks that pass you by! The evening comes alive at the beach with the bars and restaurants all busy. It would be a good idea to hire a car because getting anywhere without one did restrict us from going to other places. However, we came on holiday for rest and relaxation, and that is exactly what we got! The hotel is in quite an isolated area, with a limited ferry service. We did go to Sirmione by ferry, which was lovely; however, experiencing how busy it was, made us appreciate our chosen location in Moniga, and appreciated returning to our hotel! One small moan, towards the end of our week, the hotel had building works being carried out. This was quite noisy and spoilt the peacefulness of our surroundings. I understand hotels need to have maintenance works carried out from time to time, but it would have been courteous to have been pre-warned by the hotel that replacement of doors and windows would be taking place. All in all, we had a fabulous week!

We hired a car from Verona Airport it was a lovely scenic drive from the airport to the hotel. The location was perfect for what we wanted 5-10 min walk down to bars and restaurants by the lake. We ate down there every night and all the restaurants we tried were good. Our room over looked the pool and had a lovely view towards the lake. It was super hot when we were there but the room stayed lovely and cool and the air conditioning worked a treat. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice and our room was very clean. Would definitely go back again

Beautiful location, great view of the lake from the balcony, reception staff very polite and helpful, food was very tasty, no trouble to make something else if you didn't like what was on the menu, grounds well maintained, swimming pool delightful, room could do with a refresh in the bathroom, otherwise all very good and all staff fantastic, 3 minute walk down to the beach with restaurants and bars

great 4 star hotel with excellent staff and quality food only faults beds not very comfortable and in the middle of nowhere. Will need to rent a car or take €105 taxi from airport. Local taxi service needs booking in advance and female driver very offensive
