I rarely take the time to write reviews, but when a place truly goes above and beyond with its hospitality, attention to detail, and genuine care for its guests, I believe it deserves to be recognized. Before traveling from the United States to Italy, I spent countless hours researching where our family should stay. We weren’t looking for a large luxury resort—we wanted something intimate, off the beaten path, surrounded by nature, full of warmth, and centered around an active, healthy lifestyle. Without any recommendations or word of mouth, I happened to discover the GFELL Hotel, and it turned out to be one of the best travel decisions we’ve ever made. This charming 17-room hidden gem perfectly reflects the warmth, heritage, and hospitality of the Mair family. From the moment we arrived late on a Sunday evening after significant travel delays, we were welcomed personally by Julian Mair, who greeted us with genuine kindness and even prepared an incredible charcuterie spread to ensure our family didn’t go to bed hungry after learning there were no restaurants still open nearby. That simple gesture set the tone for the entire week. The property itself is exactly as pictured—if not better. The beautifully restored farmhouse and thoughtfully designed hotel, seamlessly built into the hillside, are architectural masterpieces that blend modern comfort with the surrounding landscape. Every detail feels intentional. The rooms are immaculate, the common spaces are elegant without being pretentious, and the entire property radiates warmth. More importantly, you immediately sense that the people caring for this hotel genuinely love what they do and are passionate about preserving their family’s traditions and South Tyrolean culture. Every morning I looked forward to stepping outside the front door for a hike or trail run through the surrounding forests and meadows before returning for what became one of my favorite breakfasts anywhere in the world. Fresh whole foods, homemade specialties, freshly pressed juices, local cheeses, and incredible charcuterie—many of the meats sourced through the Mair family’s own butcher—made every breakfast memorable. The location could not have been more perfect. It offers peace, privacy, and an authentic connection with nature while remaining incredibly convenient to explore the Dolomites. We were able to access an extensive network of hiking trails directly from the hotel without needing to drive, yet some of the region’s most iconic destinations were only a short distance away. It truly offers the best of both worlds: tranquility without isolation. What impressed me most, however, was not the architecture, the scenery, or even the incredible food. It was the feeling this place creates. In a world where so many hotels strive to be luxurious, GFELL succeeds in being something much more meaningful—it feels like coming home. The warmth of the Mair family and every member of their team is something you simply cannot manufacture. My only disappointment is trying to figure out how I can return as soon as possible. Whether you visit during the summer hiking season, the winter snow, or any other time of year, I have no doubt you will experience the same remarkable hospitality that our family did. If I could give GFELL ten stars, I would without hesitation. We stayed 1 week at Gfell and we had the most fantastic holiday. When you arrive at the hotel you are met by the most breathtaking view. The hotel has been very nicely renovated so it is both modern and kept in a style that blends in with the amazing nature. The rooms are nice with all amenities and again the most fantastic view. The restaurant that belongs to the hotel is very popular and this is totally understandable - the food is just fantastic. We had dinner every day at the hotel and most days chose to return the hotel for lunch as well, as it is such a nice place . The service throughout our stay was just fantastic as well. The family who owns the Gfell and the restaurant are on site 24/7 and the service they offer is just fantastic, Thank you to alll of the family for making ur holiday one of the best and we will be back.

The hotel is exceptionally beautifully located and its interior design is sublime. You can enjoy the magnificent view and completely unwind. The hotel is run by the Mair family, who provide uncomplicated service and offer exceptionally delicious food in their restaurant Schönblick. Top destination!!!

Great place to stay. Warm welcome. Very attentive personnel. A family hotel where do you feel like at home. The sauna with the view is just amazing. The location of the hotel is perfect to rest and reconnect to nature. The food, the wine are great. Even if it is missing a bit more of an italian taste in the menu.
