Mama Shelter Roma

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Loved the memorabilia throughout the hotel. The captions on the mirrors and the masks in the rooms were a welcoming unique touch. Rooms were a good size and very clean. Food was excellent. Lots of variety for breakfast. Great base for visiting the Vatican City and very close to a metro stop. Would definitely recommend.

Do not expect the air conditioning in the room to do anything. It does not work. You will be hot and sweaty all night. And our trip was during the beginning of April, so I cannot imagine what the room would feel like during the height of summer. Of course we opened the windows to try to get some air in the room, which resulted in extremely LOUD noises all night long from being DIRECTLY on the busy road, keeping us awake. Your room may be directly on the busy road like ours was. Vespas and loud vehicles going by all night. They also do not provide a garbage in the room. The only garbage provided is the small one in the bathroom, which they never even put garbage bags in. The WiFi is not good. To top it all off, my glass bottle of expensive face wash was found broken in the bathroom after a cleaning. The only good thing about this place is that it was clean and well decorated. Not enough to want to return. Do better mama shelter Roma!

My husband booked this hotel for our 5-day visit to Rome. Pictures on the website made me worry that the hotel was going to be a bit weird and basic; however, the reality was a very pleasant surprise. Staff were very professional, welcoming and helpful. Our room was large, clean, stylish and bright, and we had a view of the dome of St. Peter’s. All of the facilities in the room were very nice quality. We loved that the neighborhood surrounding the hotel felt very safe. We found great restaurants, friendly cafes, and a fantastic 24 hour Carrefour grocery store closeby. We were very close to the Vatican and St. Peter’s, on foot. In a few minutes we could reach all the other tourist sites in Central Rome from the metro stop nearby. When we saw how busy Central Rome was, we were relieved we had booked a place to stay well away from the fray. It was a friendly, colorful oasis of calm. We ate a couple of times in the pizzeria downstairs. We were delighted by the colorful, funky decor, and the pizza was good and very reasonable. The vibe throughout the entire hotel was very unique, stylish and fun - especially the vine-covered entrance with hanging lamps and the artsy lobby and restaurant areas. The 80s-vibe, cabana-like indoor pool area was really cute also. Unfortunately we did not get to enjoy the rooftop bar area, as it was a bit too cold, but this would be such a festive and fun place to enjoy a drink on a summer evening. We were sad to leave Mama Shelter, and would definitely return to this lovely hotel - it was a great base from which to explore this remarkable city.

Nice hotel, not too far from the Cipro metro station and within walking distance of the Vatican City. It’s a funky hotel, loved the wallpaper in the elevator, especially being a soccer/football fan. Staff were very friendly and helpful. In my last morning, two women had come to the front desk asking for help. Apparently they had booked time at a different property and from what I could overhear, I was a disaster for the two. The staff completely went out of their way to help them, even though they were not guests. Very impressive! I knew I was in a good place when we arrived, clean, orange trees and the boutique feel. The on site restaurant was very good, pizza was great, breakfast was amazing! I’m glad my wife booked this hotel. I would highly recommend the hotel!

I worked in the travel industry for 5 years and have been travelling for close to 50 years. This hotel is world class, the personal service and the staff is second to none. If you are a family, we are 4 (3 and 7 year old kids) I cannot possibly recommend it highly enough. It is a little way from the tourist centre but that is no bad thing. A particular thank you to Antonio who made our children feel more welcome than any other hotel that we have ever visited. It is very rare that I can recommend a hotel to literally anyone, particularly people with families, but , Mama Shelter is that hotel. First class . Thank you guys so much for the amazing service and unforgettable break. We will be back. No question.
