OVERALL EXPERIENCE We were a party of four adults and two young children staying at Alua Village for 11 nights. After reading some of the negative reviews before arriving, I felt it was important to leave a fair and balanced review based on our own experience. Overall, this is a genuinely lovely hotel and, before the events of our final few days, we had every intention of returning in December. The hotel exceeded our expectations with its beautiful surroundings, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, good choice of food and relaxed atmosphere. It is a wonderful destination for both families and couples, and for the majority of our stay we genuinely felt this was one of the best holidays we had experienced. Unfortunately, circumstances during our stay have changed our decision about returning. We have explained this in more detail in the Pool Safety Concerns (Distressing Content Warning) section below. Aside from that incident, we would happily have recommended this hotel without hesitation. LOCATION The transfer from the airport took approximately 1½ hours. The hotel enjoys a beautiful location with stunning views, particularly at sunset. It feels peaceful and secluded whilst still being within easy reach of local attractions, including the town, boat trips and the zoo, by bus or taxi. ACCESSIBILITY Within the hotel grounds, there is a slope leading from the main hotel building to the accommodation blocks, which are separate from the reception, bar and restaurant. There are also lifts from the pool area to the rooms, making access much easier for anyone with a pushchair or mobility difficulties. We travelled with both a toddler and a baby and found getting around the resort very manageable. ROOMS Our room was spotless, spacious and completely free of the cockroaches mentioned in some reviews. We had a large balcony, a generous bathroom and, surprisingly, one of the most comfortable foam mattresses we've ever slept on in a hotel. Rooms are cleaned daily unless you request otherwise using the door sign. STAFF The staff have been one of the hotel's biggest strengths. Almost every member of staff worked incredibly hard and remained friendly, professional and welcoming throughout our stay. The only exception, in our experience, was one older dark haired female member of staff at the snack bar, who was noticeably less welcoming. Reception staff were always happy to answer questions, book taxis and help wherever they could, while the restaurant and bar staff kept everything running efficiently. ENTERTAINMENT The entertainment team worked extremely hard and always encouraged guests to get involved without being pushy. There was a good mix of daytime activities, including yoga, aqua gym, a sangria workshop and bracelet making, along with evening entertainment such as the kids' disco, adult disco, dance shows and magic shows. There really was something for everyone. MASSAGE The spa massage was mediocre. I had the Lomi Lomi massage, which cost €84 for 50 minutes. The treatment was relaxing, professional and worth considering if you're looking to unwind during your holiday. TUI REPRESENTATIVE Unfortunately, this was the weakest part of our holiday experience. We would encourage guests to exercise caution when relying solely on the TUI representative for advice or excursions. In our experience, one excursion was mis-sold, so we would recommend comparing prices and booking directly with excursion providers where possible. For example, the zoo was significantly cheaper when booked through its own website. We also felt that, when we required support, more practical assistance, communication and professionalism would have been appreciated. ALL-INCLUSIVE DRINKS & TOKEN SYSTEM The all-inclusive drinks were of reasonable quality, with a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Spirits are local brands unless you pay to upgrade, although there is a supermarket a short walk away if you prefer branded drinks. The reusable cup token system is a smart idea. Each guest receives a token which is exchanged for a reusable cup, this helps keep the resort clean as you need to hand your cup in for a new one. If you misplace your token, reception were happy to issue a replacement. FOOD There was plenty of choice throughout the day, with enough variety that we never struggled to find something we enjoyed. Everything appeared fresh, regularly replenished and catered for a wide range of tastes. One member of our group is vegetarian and was particularly impressed with the range of vegetarian options available. GYM The gym was a welcome addition and had everything we needed, including free weights, a leg press, treadmills and resistance machines. It isn't huge, but it is clean, functional and more than adequate for maintaining your fitness whilst away. There is also a pleasant outdoor workout area. FRENCH GUESTS As this is predominantly a French hotel, many guests were French-speaking. This had no negative impact on our holiday whatsoever. Most staff spoke excellent English and we always felt welcomed. CHILDREN'S FACILITIES Travelling with two young children, we found the hotel very family friendly. There is a children's pool, playground and children's entertainment, all of which were well maintained and well used throughout our stay. The kids' disco and face painting were an added bonus. ON-SITE SHOP & LAUNDRY The on-site shop is convenient for essentials, snacks and souvenirs, although prices are naturally higher than the local supermarkets, which are around a 15-minute walk away. There are no self-service laundry facilities. Reception can arrange an external laundry service, but we found it extremely expensive at €9 per clothing item. Alternatively, the shop sells laundry detergent if you wish to hand-wash clothes in your room. POOLS There are 4 pools: three outdoor pools and one heated indoor pool, which offers adults-only access between 4pm and 6pm. All pools close at 6pm. The pools offer beautiful views across the surrounding landscape. We didnt notice much cleaning of them during our stay though. There is a children's pool with two small slides (near the kids' club), while the deepest pool is located on the opposite side of the resort near the restaurant and bar. POOL SAFETY CONCERNS (Distressing Content Warning) Unfortunately, during our stay we witnessed a guest drown in the main entertainment pool. It was an incredibly distressing experience, and our thoughts remain with the gentleman's family. Whilst this was not the fault of the hotel itself, we do have concerns about the emergency response. We did not see a lifeguard at the pool when the incident first unfolded, and guests entered the water and began responding before the lifeguard arrived. Witnessing such a traumatic event inevitably changed how safe we felt for the remainder of our holiday. Members of our party were directly involved in assisting during the emergency and were left concerned by what they witnessed. They described a lack of clear coordination and crisis management during the resuscitation attempt, uncertainty over roles, and concerns regarding emergency equipment, including the resuscitation machine not functioning as expected. They also felt the lifeguard appeared unsure of what to do during parts of the incident. During our stay, it appeared that one lifeguard was responsible for monitoring all four pools from a central position within the resort. Based on what we witnessed, we believe additional lifeguards, positioned so they have a clear view of all pool areas, would significantly improve safety. We were equally disappointed by the complete lack of aftercare following such a traumatic event. Members of our party had witnessed and assisted with the incident, yet no welfare checks, information or emotional support were offered by either the hotel or reps. We appreciate that incidents of this nature are thankfully very rare, but having a clear plan to support guests affected by a traumatic event is just as important as having an emergency response plan in our opinion. FINAL THOUGHTS Before the tragic events we witnessed, we had already decided we wanted to return later this year. That alone probably says everything about how much we enjoyed this hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, clean, well managed and staffed by people who genuinely work hard to give guests a great holiday. We believe it is important to separate our experience of the hotel from the traumatic incident we witnessed, and for that reason we've tried to keep this review as balanced and fair as possible. Our thoughts remain with the gentleman's wife and loved ones xx
Ostatní číšníci a obsluha byli perfektní, vždy milí a ochotní. Bazény a okolí hotelu velmi krásné,vždy dostatek lehátek a skvěle zásobený bar .
we enjoyed every second of our time at Alua Village. we really felt like the hotel paid close attention to detail such as olives and nuts as snacks at the Terrace Bar, a different ‘Welcome Cocktail’ every night at dinner, a Mr Whippy Ice Cream Machine every day at lunch - it was little touches that we appreciated. I have seen a couple negative reviews regarding the À La Carte Restaurant - we found the À La Carte to be amazing! the restaurant was done out really nicely, the menu was extensive 5 Options for each course, the staff were really friendly and most importantly the food was exquisite, so much so we actually paid to go back for a second visit! there was never any difficulty in getting a sunbed, no need to reserve unless you like a particular spot as always lots of beds free! lastly, the staff were lovely especially the Animation Team who worked tirelessly and Lilli & Rosie in the restaurant and Pool Bar. I definitely recommend this hotel.
We have just returned from a 11 night stay , the hotel is clean and modern staff are all lovely and work so hard , We had a beautiful sea view from our room about 20mins walk it is well worth a visit very pretty you can see the chipmunks on the way down. No problems with getting a sun lounger plenty avaialble even later morning with most getting plenty of sun Food is tasty plenty of variety only slighltly negavtive could do with better labelling as was hard to tell what was vegetarian. Drinks wine you help yourself to including cava white and rose , we were MFC , so had branded drinks options and bottles of branded soft drinks , also got to keep our room until 3pm , we did one night in the a la carte which was nice. On my husbands birthday i ordered a cake and wine and they decorated the table . Evening entertainment some really good professional acts we saw a magician , cladyis night our favourite and african acrobats , on the other nights staff work hard to put on various shows , would be nice to see a few more professional acts. We would definetly return, we would have preferred a room with a seperate sleeping area for our son as he is now 12.
If we start with the positives, it’s a beautiful hotel and the Pool area is beautiful however the hotel is rundown. There was a lot of things that weren’t quite working when we got there. We found the pool bar to be inconsistently open and some days not open at all and because of the hotels all inclusive system which is you can only have one token for one plastic cup throughout the day which gets recycled we were walking quite often for a long time to get one drink which was often nearly gone by the time we got back to Where we were sitting. I’d also like to comment on the food. It was very very same thing so breakfast would would almost always be the same scrambled eggs with water in or fried eggs not cooked so it wasn’t the best breakfast. with lunch there was a little bit of rotation and same with dinner but not much variation and so we ended up going out most of the time to either have a meal or two out outside of the hotel. The hotel didn’t really cook any fresh foods for you. I found a lot of stuff quite friendly and the hotel was very clean. The biggest letdown of the holiday was the animation team who completely alienated anyone that didn’t speak French. There only one person who spoke to us but I believe he might have been from another teamso if you are English and you’ve got small children, I’d just make sure you have have some activities planned. it was a lovely holiday, but I am a little bit disappointed in this hotel.
