Parador Conde de la Gomera

We have just spent four nights at the Parador de la Gomera and our staying couldn’t have been worse. Our two rooms had big stains on the carpet, not to mention the bathrooms, where we found hairs in the tub, the toilet brush and the bidet towels were missing, and the shower walls were all flaking. The air con wasn’t working in one room, neither was the fan, which was fixed only at the end of the third day. A terrible smell of sewage filled the air to the point we called the lady at the reception to smell it herself and she agreed with us, but said she could not change us the room until the last night, as the Parador was fully booked. At the pool, there were not just enough sunbeds for everyone, so when we arrived around 5:30 pm we saw people sitting on the grass, while others just left. When we managed to get two sunbeds in four, we had to carry them by ourselves, as the guy at the pool reception does not speak a single word of English and does nothing to help. The breakfast service was even worse, as the hotel is seriously understaffed. You had to wait several minutes to be seated (not for lack of tables but because they had not been cleared), they did not replenish the buffet in time and our hot drinks always arrived at the END of our breakfast. Instead of serving spoons, guests are given bamboo/plastic tongs (which looked very unhygienic to me) and even these were absent on one day. It is truly a pity, because the Parador sits in a good location, has well-maintained gardens and is a nice building in colonial style. Unfortunately, despite these good qualities, the management and staff training is very, very poor.

I have been going there for 5 years. The staff is lovely, the food too. My cat died the day before my birthday so I thought I would have a good meal. The staff is excellent. But the car had a flat tire so I parked it outside of the gate and told the reception it would be picked up. This blond lady said it had to be moved immediately. I called a good friend who did it. They should fire this woman. My partner has been going there for 20 years. This is not service.

Location good but hotel may fall off cliff in near future. Atmosphere is calm and pleasant both inside and out! Rooms spacious but time for decoration. Value hard to quantify as cost includes €90 ferry crossings. Cleanliness exceptional throughout. Noise levels very quiet apart from the sound of those doing freestyle in pool. Breaststroke more tranquil. Service in restaurant was not what you expect from a 4* hotel. Waiters poorly trained and one in particular was unreservedly rude to clientele. Waitresses however were lovely. Not much English spoken so confusion with orders. Pool is lovely, lifeguards on hand all day in case you drown! Games room and library good for bad weather. Overall great hotel in need of trained staff.

A terrific location with great sea views and very well kept garden. Very friendly and helpful staff. Built in 1972 and showing some signs of wear in our superior room with a sea view. High standard of linen and towels. Breakfast service a bit chaotic but lots of choice in the buffet. Dinner service much better and delicious menu, good to sit near the windows in the dining room as more atmospheric.
