Hotel Costa Calero Thalasso & Spa

We recently stayed at this hotel for a week with our 8-year-old daughter. On arrival, we checked into our room, which was a good size. We had a ground-floor garden-view room, but unfortunately it overlooked a side road where it appeared easy for members of the public to climb the low fence and access the hotel grounds.We also experienced a few issues with housekeeping. On a couple of occasions, our patio door was left unlocked after cleaning, which was concerning. In addition, there was a significant ant problem in the room. We noticed ants on the very first night and reported this to reception. The staff did not seem overly concerned, and despite raising the issue two more times, including finding ants on the bed, the problem remained throughout our stay. We requested a room change but were advised that the hotel was fully booked (which it clearly was not).The main pool area does not allow inflatables, so families need to use the smaller garden pool area instead. Unfortunately, the condition of the tiles around and inside this pool was poor, with several missing or damaged. During our stay, another guest cut their foot on a broken tile in the pool. The SOS staff appeared to struggle with English, which made communication difficult when the incident was being explained.Service around the garden pool could also be improved. The bar does not open until 12:30pm and generally only has one staff member working at a time, resulting in queues building up quickly. Overall, we found many staff members lacked warmth and engagement, with few offering a greeting or smile. It often felt as though they did not want to be there, which was surprising given that it was not yet the end of the summer season.The food in the main restaurant was quite basic and often not very warm, so we chose to eat out on most evenings. We were also disappointed to find that the room safe cost €2.50 per night, as we would have expected this to be included in the price of a four-star hotel. Entertainment was another area where the hotel fell short. There was very little on offer, and unlike many family resorts, we never saw the kids' club team (if there were any) actively engaging with children or organising activities.The highlight of our stay was the complimentary one-day pass to the spa area. This was excellent, and our daughter thoroughly enjoyed it.Overall, I was very disappointed with our stay and would not recommend this hotel to friends or family. There are areas of the property that feel tired and in need of refurbishment, and I believe customer service training would benefit some members of staff. Sadly, we will not be returning.

This was a disappointing holiday and I would agree this is not a 4 star plus hotel. My husband and i went here with our 9 year old daughter. Rooms - spacious and clean however the hotel itself needs a wee refresh. If you stay on the ground floor then ants will take over... make sure no food is left on the bedside tables... we found a few ants on the bed.... Bars - there is a piano bar near to reception, this has a lovely rooftop patio, we sat out and looked at the beautiful view. Unfortunately there is no other indoor bar and in the evenings it can get busy with big queues! the small pool bar opens at 12.30 which again is not great as we were out at the pool from 10am. Staff - unfriendly and unhelpful, they appeared uninterested and frankly rude. Cleaning girls were lovely and always smiling and saying Hola! Food - decent food but all inclusive was disappointing, nothing went together and there was no themed nights or any atmosphere in the main restaurant. Lunch was served at the top pool, the food here wasnt great and lunch stopped at 3.30pm. it then changed to a snack bar however only offered hot dogs and toasties....not a great selection to be fair. Pools - needs some work, infinity wall was badly maintained and tikes missing. the drain grates around the pool were damaged and i actually fell through the smaller area. My husband reported this to staff however no staff asked if i was hurt which was a bit disappointing. Animation team - no engagement or entertainment around the pools during the daytime, apart from bingo which was a shambles. Only saw 2 members of the team. No staff memeber approached us or our daughter to let us know about the activities or made any effort to include our daughter... In my opinion most of the evening shows are very poor and need alot of work. the acts themselves seem amateur and more like a high school show. The location of the hotel is good and the marina is a lovely place to sit and have a drink. The market on a Tuesday was great! We received free 2 hour spa entry which included access to kids. This was a great way to spend the final day! This was a nice offer to all guests. If you have booked this hotel you will still have a nice time, we made the most if it and the weather was fantastic. Make use of the free shuttle bus and visit the outdoor shops in Puerto del Carmen.... I wouldn't return to this hotel as I believe there are better hotels / better value for your money.

We arrived after evening meal had finished however they re opened for late arrivals which was very welcome light salad etc. we did struggle to find our rooms due to being tired & not listening to instructions. Rooms very clean & floors mopped regularly in the 8 full days. My sister did have an issue with ants but didn’t complain. Plenty of sun loungers although need replacing as not quite 4* standard. The included spa experience was absolutely amazing. Entertainment team very good enjoyed the aqua fit, stretch,Pilates and archery darts. It’s very relaxing I don’t want them in your face the timetable tells you what’s on upto you to join in. Meals were very good I enjoyed the lunchtime restaurant as much as the evening restaurant. The staff are all friendly & I don’t have a problem with them collecting plates straight away better than flies etc. I ordered a birthday cake the day before 60th celebration & was so pleased the table was trimmed up & the staff came out singing a lovely touch. Plenty of tables in Piano bar & show bar. We enjoyed a dance couple of evenings. The small marina is lovely nice bars & restaurants. A perfect holiday all round well done to all the staff

This hotel was a nice hotel but staff was so unpleasant no atmosphere in the hotel or around the pool food was terrible cleaning was not great we had to were shoes all the time in our room floor never got washed the whole week it definitely not 4 star plus in some areas waitress was hanging round ready to clear your plate before you finished your meal would never stay here again

Echoing a few other reviews here, pool area needs massive amount of maintenance. We are here day 3, and the biggest issue I have is with the staff. Absolutely zero personality and it frankly feels like they have absolute distain to be asked for things. Not something I have ever experienced in a 4 star hotel. Not sure if this is to do with the season coming to an end, but really disappointing for a holiday I spent hard earned cash on. Food is decent and on tap beer is good. Rooms are clean a tidy, with the exception of a few ants, but we are ground floor, so can accept this. Beds are comfy. Not seen the animation team and it lacks atmosphere around the pools during the day.
