Hotel Costa Calero Thalasso & Spa

3rd trip to the hotel in the last 12 months. Great hotel, this time we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with family and friends (16 of us all staying in the hotel). Thanks to Miguel for organising a table for us all in the restaurant and making sure we all were catered for. We’ve already booked for December!

On first impression this hotel looked 4 star, however from the first check in interaction it was clear that the customer service was poor and we felt like we were an inconvience. Unfortuntely this was a theme throughout the weeks stay at times at reception, the bars and resturant. No wristband system so saying your room no or showing your room card became a joke, very behind the times. Entertainment for 1 hr per night 10-11pm was poor and room smelt damp and dirty. Resturant nice but food very repeative and not as good quality. Food empty for sometime before replaced and breakfast was the worse for no cups, glasses, bowls etc and coffee machines not working. Upside omlette station was great and lady making them was friendly. Pool area good, no issue getting sunbeds at end time. Different areas a little disjointed and no always easy to get a drink at pool bars with queues due to lack of staff. On the upside the rooms were lovely, spacious and clean. Lovely harbour close with a few resturants but nothing else close to walj to. Free shuttle was good to Puerto Del Carman. On the whole wouldnt stay again as hotel had no life and soul. No background music anywhere, not even by the pool and everyone looked miserable.

Location ok 10 min walk to marina. Atmosphere at hotel awful, we felt no one was happy, no vibe not even a quiet one. No background music by pool. Entertainment might be on but it’s not advertised when and where, entertainment staff are happy but they need to inform and include whole resort of what is going on. Evening entertainment poor only 1 hour. Got told had to turn noise down at 11pm but can’t be true as had 2 weddings and a 15th party with loud noise at midnight. Food was nice but same, they say themed nights but these are not advertised and not very much to warrant saying themed nights. As for the hotel staff they are all miserable, rude no customer service hardly any could speak even a little English. WiFi not available most of the time! Happy with Rooms they were good and cleaned everyday. Value overpriced as given poor service and lack of entertainment it’s not a 4 star

We did have a lovely holiday overall and made some wonderful memories. The guests were friendly, and the atmosphere among holidaymakers was great, which really helped make our stay enjoyable. However, there were some significant issues that need addressing. The restaurant and entertainment staff worked incredibly hard throughout our stay and were clearly doing their absolute best. Staff were constantly rushing around trying to keep up with demand, which highlighted a clear lack of management support. It was unfair to see such hardworking employees left struggling while management appeared absent. Management need to be more visible, get their hands dirty, and help support their teams during busy periods rather than leaving staff overwhelmed. The reception staff were a major disappointment. We found them rude, unapproachable, and unhelpful whenever we needed assistance. First impressions count, and unfortunately the attitude at reception made us feel unwelcome. The real stars of the hotel were the cleaners, bar staff, restaurant staff, and entertainment team. The housekeeping team did a fantastic job and were always friendly and hardworking. The bar staff were welcoming and professional, while the restaurant and entertainment teams worked tirelessly to ensure guests had a good experience despite the lack of support. It's a shame because there are some genuinely excellent staff members here, and we did enjoy ourselves and have a great holiday thanks to them and the lovely guests we met. Unfortunately, poor management and the attitude of the reception team let the hotel down and prevented what could have been an outstanding experience.

Just spent 2 weeks here, sea view room all inclusive,we have been here many times over the last 29 years. We have come away with mixed feelings this time. The room was lovely,and clean with a lovely view from the 5th floor. Food at breakfast and evening was mainly good but lunch time not so good. Same food every day with very little change,mixed salads not as good as they used to be,a lot of the doors were.missing off the food. The hotel is let down by the staff unfortunately,a lot of the regulars seem to be missing.The outdoor grounds and pools.were lovely but unfortunately the showers weren't working and we were told they haven't been for some time which isn't good. The pool on the grass area is closing in January for 2 months for a refurbishment which will be good.A lot of weddings take place here which is lovely for them but not enough staff for everything,long queues at the bar and 2 separate queues in the entertainment area causes bad feelings. We are due to return with family next Easter.. I really hope things improve by then.
