SO/ Maldives

My wife and I spent five wonderful nights at SO/ Maldives in early August, and it was genuinely one of the best holidays we have ever had. The experience was exceptional from the moment we arrived at the airport. We were warmly greeted by the resort staff and escorted to the speedboat for the short journey to the island. The transfer as approximately 20 minutes from Velana International Airport, making this beautiful private-island retreat remarkably convenient to reach. Check-in at the resort was seamless, and the outstanding attention to detail immediately set the tone for our stay. A huge part of what made our holiday so memorable was our butler, Lamir. He took excellent care of us throughout our stay, arranging our dinner and spa reservations as well as a day trip to CROSSROADS Maldives. He was always available, yet everything was handled calmly and without fuss. Lamir clearly loves his job and genuinely enjoys looking after his guests. His thoughtful birthday surprise—a beautiful cake—made the occasion even more special. He is a real credit to the resort. We stayed in an Ocean Water Pool Villa, which was stylish, spacious and beautifully maintained. The modern facilities, private pool and uninterrupted ocean views were every bit as impressive as the resort describes on its official villa page⁠. Housekeeping serviced the villa twice daily, and it was always immaculate. The food was another highlight. We thoroughly enjoyed dining at Citronelle Club and Hadaba. The selection was plentiful, the quality was consistently excellent, and there was something to suit every taste. Citronelle Club’s Asian-inspired cuisine and Hadaba’s Levantine flavours were both distinctive and delicious. Special thanks must also go to Claire, Luna, Araily and Fahudhu. Their warmth, friendliness and attentive service made us feel genuinely welcome every time we visited the restaurants. SO/ Maldives combines an extraordinary setting with beautiful villas, excellent food and, most importantly, outstanding people. We felt truly looked after from beginning to end, and it was genuinely sad to leave. We departed with many wonderful memories and would return without hesitation. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a luxurious, personal and unforgettable Maldives experience.

Very disappointing experience Had a very bad experience at SO/ Maldives. We chose the property expecting the level of hospitality and service you would associate with a five-star luxury resort, but unfortunately, it fell far short of our expectations. I was down with a bad cold and cough during our stay and repeatedly requested basic cold/cough medication or assistance. Despite asking multiple times, the staff did not make any meaningful effort to help. When you are staying at a luxury resort and are unwell, you expect at least some basic level of care and hospitality. The overall service and attitude were extremely disappointing and did not match what we expected from a five-star property. The beautiful location and luxury setting cannot compensate for poor hospitality. For the price we paid, the service was nowhere close to what we expected from SO/ Maldives. Definitely not the five-star experience we were hoping for.

I recently spent several wonderful days at SO/ Maldives and could not be happier with this holiday. What first impressed me most is the super‑short 15‑minute speedboat transfer from Male airport. No long seaplane ride, which makes this resort perfect for short‑trip planning. The whole Crossroads complex brings huge convenience — the free scheduled ferry to Crossroads Marina opens countless dining, shopping and entertainment options beyond the island itself. Our overwater pool villa is beautifully designed in modern SO signature style, with private plunge pool and direct ocean access. The lagoon water colour is absolutely stunning, we enjoyed watching grey herons and marine wildlife visiting our villa terrace every single day. Dining experience was satisfying overall. Citronelle, Lazuli and the main restaurant Citronelle offered diverse menus, in‑villa dining service was prompt and the food quality exceeded expectation. The DIS loyalty programme is a brilliant perk; the ongoing 10% discount on all food & beverage across the whole resort saved us a great deal during our stay, alongside the daily complimentary tea & coffee redemption. The whole guest‑experience team responded quickly whenever we had requests. Staff were polite, patient and tried their best to solve every issue we raised. We loved the laid‑back vibe here, it is less isolated than remote private islands yet still delivers that relaxing Maldives holiday feeling. We are already considering extending our stay and will definitely come back again in the future. If you want a fashionable, convenient luxury Maldives getaway without complicated transfer arrangements, SO/ Maldives is an excellent pick.
