It doesn’t feel great when you write a negative review. I do so in the hope it leads to improvements . Or at the least it helps others spend their precious time and money better. What went wrong. Every single staff interaction felt like you are an inconvenience from the lady receptionist who clearly hates being there to the breakfast guy who acted like you requested a kidney when you asked for eggs pouched not fried. The worst shower i ever had in paid accommodation. The room phone that is ornamental. The unhappy hour drinks. The sign telling guests not to fill water bottles from their drinks machine. This hotel is in a perfect location. Has a great roof space and rooms have a nice balcony and view. It should be a top place to visit but i can only assume the owners are happy to overcharge for a poor experience because enough tourists will stay there….once

Our stay at the hotel was truly wonderful, and what made it especially memorable was the exceptional service we received in the restaurant each morning. A very special mention goes to Ester, who made our breakfasts something to look forward to every single day. Ester is the perfect example of what outstanding hospitality looks like. She is incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. From the moment we arrived each morning, she greeted us with warmth and a smile that instantly set a positive tone for the day. She consistently went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, often anticipating requests before we even had to ask. While the hotel itself was nice, it’s the people like Ester who make a stay unforgettable. Her dedication, professionalism, and genuine warmth are a huge asset to the team. We left with great memories, and a big part of that is thanks to her. We would absolutely return, and we sincerely hope to see Ester again on our next visit.

We have visited the Calypso quite a few times over the years. This year we decided to stay bed & breakfast rather than half-board which we have done in the past. It was probably a wise decision as there appeared to be an evening meal available on only one of our ten nights stay. Knowing that there were several options nearby this did not worry us. How one of the drinks offerings at breakfast can be described as "orange" is beyond me. It was extremely weak and almost colourless - but to be honest it has hardly changed over the years we have visited. We prefer to have a traditional English breakfast when on holiday - fitting us up for the rest of the day and with an evening meal to look forward to. The appearance of the bacon could only be described as "off-putting" - slices (dripping in fat) were crammed closely together and did not appear appetising. On previous visits the guests had the option of fried eggs, omelettes made to order and freshly-poached eggs. Not this time! The state of the room (Bay view) was somewhat of a disappointment - same furniture from forty years ago and cracked, damaged & loose floor tiles that once upon a time would have been attended to without hesitation. Having got these comments off my chest I have only praise for the staff, especially the night manager who was about to chase up our taxi transfer when the driver arrived. Shall we go back again? Unlikely provided the hotels under construction are accepting visitors.
