The Embassy Valletta Hotel

I stayed in this hotel with my family for four nights over New Year. We paid upfront on arrival and then when we tried to leave today they said they had no record of our payment and they were insisting we pay a second time. It was terrifying. As we were about to call the police they mysteriously found our payments. Be very careful if you make any payments to this hotel. They never even issued us with a receipt. The duty manager was very intimidating and the Reception staff were rude. The staff on the 7th floor were very nice but there was never a table available for breakfast for our family if five. I would not recommend staying in this hotel. They could not even produce the standard statement of account for our rooms. The question is - where is the money going ? Re the hotel’s response , there was no pending amount to be paid upon check out. All 3 payments had already been made. The reception staff told us that we hadn’t paid for our rooms which is incorrect. There was no apology.

We stayed at The Embassy for a week, and it was our first family holiday abroad with our almost two-year-old son, who had never travelled overseas before. From the moment we booked, the staff were incredibly accommodating, friendly and attentive. Before our arrival, they kindly arranged a beautiful cot for our room, along with a baby bath, and throughout our stay they regularly checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. The hotel itself was stunning, with beautiful interiors, impeccable cleanliness, and an incredible view from the rooftop bar and pool. We were placed on the sixth floor, which gave us a peaceful and quiet space that was perfect for travelling with a young child. Despite only being there for a short time, the staff went above and beyond — they remembered our names, made a real effort with our son and gave him so much attention and care. Their warmth made us feel truly welcomed. The Embassy felt like a home away from home and offered fantastic value for money. For our first holiday abroad as a family, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience and have no regrets about choosing The Embassy. Malta was beautiful and proved to be an ideal destination for families.

Excellent location! We were able to wander the streets of Valletta to delicious restaurants and key sights (Upper Barrakka, St. John's Co-Cathedral) with sounds from street musicians wafting up to our room and fireworks throughout the city in the evening. The gentleman who checked us in was welcoming and friendly. However we were initially given a gorgeous sea view room that was unfortunately still under construction when we walked in (e.g., no curtains, furniture on the bed) and so were unable to use it. A very attentive and kind restaurant manager seated us in the restaurant with complimentary appetizers while we waited for a new room. The room we were moved to was not under construction but was a step-down in terms of view and amenities, which was a bit of a disappointment. The front desk manager was not apologetic or understanding and I felt a bit gaslit when she told me it actually was a sea view room (which if we went on the balcony and looked hard right, I guess was) and she said that we didn't qualify for the amenities we were initially offered in the first room. So weird, she only offered to move us again on the second evening after I pushed the issue of the downgrade. But we were gone all day and not able to take them up on the offer to move and I just didn't have it in me to complain anymore. The main issue I had was the unpleasant smell in all the common areas of the hotel - hallways, entryway, elevators, etc. They seemed to have responded to a sewage smell (?) with an aggressive overlay of perfume that I did not care for at all. Speaking of sewage, our toilet stopped flushing at some point during our stay, though when we complained, the front desk was able to turn it back on without having to come to the room. There was also a fire alarm that went off which made elevators inaccessible and fire doors closed on our floor, but I never knew what actually triggered the alarm. The breakfast was quite good - excellent variety and fresh juices. They also were wonderful to accommodate a very late check out so we could take a shower after a long hot day before heading to the airport for our flight out. I wouldn't go back because of the smell/perfume in the common areas (thankfully not so much in our room!)- the smell really affected my experience of the hotel which otherwise maybe was just going through some minor/temporary construction/maintenance and had mostly friendly staff and great location.

This is a gorgeous hotel. The rooms are really spacious and light and have great facilities, I actually don’t think the pictures on the website do them justice. We upgraded to a sea view room and wow what a view it was - definitely worth the extra! (Room 606). We were the floor below the rooftop but didn’t hear any noise as reported in other reviews. My one disappointment was that we stayed for our honeymoon having got married a few days before. While I informed the hotel of this in advance (which was acknowledged via email), they didn’t actually acknowledge this when we were there in any way despite saying they would make us ‘feel special’. Little things like this when it’s a special holiday is what sets hotels apart and it was a shame they didn’t do anything. We also found reception to be busy at times as there was only one person one duty which resulted in queues .
