Xemxija Bay Hotel

The room and hotel was nothing like the ones that were advertised on line at all. The ones advertised are premium updated rooms , we now realise . We booked the hotel with the look of the fabulous photos online, but realise this is false advertising . Our room was extremely basic and very tired and old fashioned looking . The balcony was big enough only for 2 chairs only , and the ‘table ‘ was a plastic stool! It wasn’t big enough to use properly for any length of time , it also looked out onto a building site at the end of the little street , Utterly disappointing ! The bathroom was very small and because the sink had been recently replaced the gap to enter the bathroom was tiny I had to turn sideways and go through slowly , to get in . The wardrobe door couldn’t be opened properly , and therefore difficult to access the safe ( same door) as there was a dampener on the door to the room , protruding out against the wardrobe door . The hairdryer was clearly once in a draw on its own , but it’s now hard wired and sitting in a draw that can’t be closed properly, due to the hairdryer cord . There was a fridge , kettle and cups but no tea /coffee etc. The towels were a dirty white , full of stains hard and thin . Never have I had towels like this in a hotel room, shocking . The room is extremely tired with broken ceiling tiles, cracked bedside shelves, chipped arms on the chair , and badly scuffed walls which look unsightly. It was a dreadful room and needed to be completely renovated at best if say it was a 1-2 star , definitely not a 3 star. Outside across the road ( again no mention of this online ) there was a very dirty looking pool with paint coming off the bottom of the pool. The sun beds were absolutely filthy and I would not have wanted to put my towel on those . The bar didn’t seem too bad up by the pool but we didn’t use it . At the side of the bar I noticed a huge pile of full black dustbin liners , not sure why they were stored there , I’d have thought it could be a huge environmental risk with rats etc. The only good bits were hot water at all times of the day, good WiFi, and a decent ‘shop’ in reception selling all sorts of items . I definitely would not recommend this hotel, as it was out in the sticks in a residential area and no local beach to walk to . To get to st Pauls bay it’s a good hour and quarter walk or a 8-17 euro bolt ride depending on time of day . Theres very little in this area so travelling from this area costs . We used the ferry but that was a taxi ride to St Paul’s bay ( Bugibba ) to the jetty. It was a great way of getting to sliema and Valletta, without all the car traffic . Didn’t use the local buses , not always consistent, and slow. There is one local cafe around the corner , and thank goodness for this place as it was the only eatery around ( xemxiji cafe and lounge) other than travelling out to St Paul’s bay ( nearest place ) Extremely disappointed in this hotel and holiday, it was a complete waste of money . We loved Malta though and I’d recommend stopping in sliema or Valletta .

We were quite disappointed with this holiday and hold TUI responsible because the photos on their website do not represent either of the rooms we experienced. The first room was awful - it was stark, bland, dated and uninviting with dated fixtures and fittings. We rejected this and later on were shown another. This was only better because the layout was better and the bathroom bigger. The furniture was dated, the ceiling fan rusty, the safe had a broken rusty door and there were no privacy screens at the window so we had to keep the curtains closed as we were on street level. The only great thing about the room was the shower - great pressure and temperature range. The breakfast was quite basic and unchanged each day. Having said all that, the staff were pleasant and the hotel was kept clean, and had a good shop in the reception area. For us it was a good base for our holiday, we could get all over the island from the nearby bus stops, and there was a couple of restaurants and a sports bar nearby.

Great experience overall, the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, the Italian guy is the best front desk person I've meet in a while they should give him a promotion.

I have stayed at this hotel many times. Lovely helpful staff. Good breakfast. Great showers. Comfy beds, Aircon, fridges, kettle. Good room sizes. Some with lovely balconies. Great pool. Close to bus stop, convince store and bar. You are right by the sea that has suitable areas with ladders to get in the water. Cordoned off from the boats docked in the bay. This hotel is a great base to visit Malta and get a restful night's sleep after your days adventures. Fully recommend 💯.

Had a wonderful lunch experience at Xemxija Bay Hotels. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, the environment was fabulous, and the hotel was spotless and beautifully maintained. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and a truly pleasant experience. Highly recommended!
