We are reviewing the Shanti Maurice on the south coast of Mauritius, where we spent two wonderful weeks in August 2026; to put it in a nutshell: we were and still are absolutely thrilled.
Location ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The luxury resort has a dreamlike, secluded location at the eastern end of the public St. Felix Beach – pure peace and nature. The bay is separated from the open sea by a coral reef. Behind the calm, turquoise lagoon, the waves of the Indian Ocean break with sometimes impressive power. We went swimming and snorkelling in the shallow bay during high tide to admire the colourful fish and the corals growing close to the water's surface.
Overall Impression ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The resort is situated on a huge, beautifully maintained property and offers everything you could possibly want from a TOP resort. The entire estate radiates the peace and tranquillity that the word Shanti (the Sanskrit word for peace) promises. It is a spacious tropical park with numerous walking paths, and all buildings are discreetly integrated into nature. Here are the things we particularly enjoyed:
Restaurants ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
In the main restaurant "Stars" with its sea-view terrace, we loved the variety of different cuisines (besides European food, they offer Indian, Japanese, Arabic, and more). In the "Rum Shed", alongside the great selection of grilled dishes, we really enjoyed the rustic atmosphere and the very personal service (especially from the restaurant manager). And, of course, we tried some of the over 200 (!) varieties of rum. At "La Kaza Mama", a special Creole buffet was served once a week. The live performance of the traditional Mauritian Sega dance rounded off our evening perfectly. In the bar with pool and sea views, we enjoyed good wines and delicious snacks both indoors and outside.
Sports ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
A huge pool area, tennis, padel, and water sports facilities were what we expected from a resort of this class. What we particularly loved was the 9-hole golf course directly on the resort grounds (free of charge) and the short jogging track through the tropical vegetation, which is also perfect for romantic walks.
Wellness ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The spa area deeply impressed us: a spacious garden area within the resort with waterways, walking paths, and pavilions with cozy seating. The numerous treatment rooms are each tailored to specific techniques. The therapists and masseurs are very lovely and really know what they are doing. The "Shanti Fusion" was one of the best massages we have ever had.
Room/Villa ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Now to another highlight: we stayed in one of the five "Beachfront Suite Pool Villas". For us, the view is a crucial factor when choosing a hotel and room. Long story short: the view from our villa was one of the absolute highlights of our entire vacation. The photo says it all. Thanks to the many large windows, we could enjoy this view even from inside the villa. Although the pool temperature couldn't be adjusted individually, it was warm enough for swimming (despite the Mauritian winter) – and the pool was actually big enough to swim short laps, not just splash around.
The villa for 2 people was very spacious and in pristine condition. The luxurious bathroom featured an additional outdoor shower in a private little garden – showering under the starlit sky was simply dreamlike.
We were also very happy that the reservations team fulfilled our request for a specific villa number. All Beachfront Suite Pool Villas have the same layout with a west-facing sea view.
Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Alongside the villa, the service was the absolute highlight for us. Right from the warm welcome and the initial tour of the main building, we felt genuinely welcome. All staff members were always incredibly friendly and heartwarming.
During our stay, we celebrated a birthday and our silver wedding anniversary. For the birthday, there was a delicious cake and warm wishes from the entire hotel team. For our silver anniversary, our bedroom was so beautifully decorated that we felt like we were on our honeymoon (see photo).
At our request, they organized a taxi driver for a day trip to the capital, Port Louis, who also acted as our tour guide on foot through the city. His name is David, and we highly recommend asking for him directly; he was a very nice and knowledgeable guide (at a very fair price).
Our butler, Yohana, made our stay truly special. She anticipated our every wish. For instance, we only mentioned once in passing that we love dark chocolate, and the next day we received a large platter with various international and local dark chocolates and tropical fruits.
In short: our vacation was amazing, and we will definitely be back.
