My stay at Seneria Resort and Spa was, unfortunately, a disappointing experience overall. While the staff were consistently polite and courteous, the level of service did not match expectations for a property of this kind—especially considering the resort appeared to be only about 15% occupied during my visit. The rooms themselves were acceptable at first glance, but the issues became apparent over time. It wasn’t one major problem, but rather a combination of smaller inconveniences that added up. For example, there were frequent shortages of towels, the sink was not functioning properly, and the bar fridge was refilled inconsistently and on no clear schedule. These are basic services that should be reliable, yet we often found ourselves having to request or follow up on things that should have been handled proactively. And sometimes took up to 3-4 days for the team to follow through with requests. Overall, while the staff’s friendliness is worth noting, the inconsistency in service and lack of attention to detail made the stay fall short of expectations. With better management and more consistent execution of basic services, the experience could be significantly improved. Dining and drinks at Seneria Resort and Spa were a mixed experience. On the positive side, the food quality itself was good—particularly at the steakhouse, which served an excellent filet mignon. However, the overall dining experience was frustrating due to inconsistent scheduling. Given the resort’s low occupancy, many restaurants operated unpredictably. The buffet was only available for breakfast and lunch, with no dinner service, and the French restaurant was never open during our stay. With frequent and seemingly random closures, the realistic options were limited to the Mexican restaurant or the steakhouse—provided you secured a reservation. The bars followed a similar pattern of inconsistency. They closed relatively early (around 10 PM), and drink service varied depending on the bartender. It was not uncommon to order the same drink at different times or from different staff and be told that the ingredients were unavailable, even when it had been made successfully before. That said, there were some positives—traveling as a family of five, no one experienced any illness, and the kids enjoyed themselves, which helped avoid any major issues. Still, the lack of consistency in food and beverage operations made the experience feel disorganized and below expectations. The beach was one of the most disappointing aspects of our stay. In reality, there was essentially no usable ocean access due to large amounts of seaweed. The shoreline was covered in mounds of rotting seaweed, making it unpleasant to walk on and unusable for swimming. What made this more frustrating is that just a short 5-minute walk down the beach—near Margaritaville—the conditions were completely different. That stretch was clean, well-maintained, and had clear, beautiful water. Initially, we assumed the resort had simply been hit harder by the influx of seaweed, but seeing such a stark contrast so close by made it clear this was more of a maintenance and resource issue. It felt like the situation had gotten out of hand and wasn’t being adequately addressed. This was a major drawback for us and likely would have influenced our decision to book had we known in advance. The beach conditions did not match the images advertised online, which felt misleading and outdated. Overall - know what I know now if it manages to stay open - we will not be revisiting this place ever again
Beach is very dirty. A lot of seaweed. Smell is awful (even in the lobby). Hotels right next to have a nice beach. Drinks are really bad. Juices are mixed with water and stevia. Don’t even taste like juice. Other drinks (including non alcoholic) impossible to drink as well. Pina colada tastes so gross. Stepped 3 times on little tiny metal things in the family pool (maybe because they fixed something near). Kids club smell like paint and glue. The smell was really strong. Receptionist are not aware of many things. Or just say: scan the QR code. The only plus: activities for kids and steak house restaurant. Other than that - disappointing
Had such a nice experience here for my birthday trip with my family. The restaurants were very nice, especially the steakhouse where the food was amazing and the service was impeccable (special thank you to Ana who served us three nights in a row :)) Really enjoyed a relaxing trip with the kids at sensira
When we arrived, the pool area was filthy with food, cups and trash (and hair balls) littered everywhere. The building itself is falling apart. Areas were sectioned off for construction (ugly). The pools were filthy and crumbling. Mold in the showers. Eli at the front desk was unfriendly and not at all accommodating. The buffet was disgusting and inedible. The pillows on the outdoor chairs are filthy. There were no towels available for the pool. The kids area was filthy and falling apart. Many of the games did not work. The resort should alert travellers that the beach is not usable. Great for small kids if you don't mind a basic resort.
I agree with many of the negative reviews. Unfortunately, our experience at Sensira Resort & Spa Riviera Maya was consistently disappointing from start to finish. The first thing you notice upon arrival is a strong, unpleasant odor coming from seaweed on the beach. We’ve stayed at other resorts with seaweed issues before, but nothing nearly this overwhelming. We traveled as a group of 9 (6 adults and 3 children, ages 6–10), and problems started immediately. Check-in service was slow and disorganized. The lineups for dining especially at the main restaurant were long and poorly managed. When we raised concerns, the situation escalated unnecessarily, with a manager even threatening to remove my husband from the resort, which was completely unacceptable. The pic attached is the contact information he wrote down for us to address our concerns. I'm not sure if this is his name or his manager. Staff turnover also appears to be a serious issue, which became clear after speaking with employees. This likely explains the inconsistent service we experienced throughout our stay. The reservation system for specialty restaurants (steakhouse, Italian, Mexican) is misleading. The app allowed us to book for 9 people, yet the restaurants refused to seat us together. This lack of coordination made group dining frustrating and inconvenient. NOTE: the mechanical bull was out of commission Pool and beach chair management is another major problem. Guests reserve chairs as early as 5 a.m., yet many go unused for hours. Meanwhile, others are left without seating. This is something the resort needs to address. On top of that, clean towels are difficult to access, you may have to wait up to an hour, which is unacceptable at a resort of this level. There were a few bright spots: Isabel, the lifeguard, was incredibly kind and attentive; Gustavo, who had just started, showed impressive dedication and work ethic; and “Gary,” the entertainer, brought great energy and humor. These individuals stood out, but unfortunately, they were the exception rather than the norm. We also noticed that service seemed more focused on local guests, while English-speaking visitors received less attention. Overall, this was not a positive experience. We would not return and would strongly advise families to consider other options.
