We visited the Dorfhotel last year and were so impressed that this year we booked a return trip and also a trip to Sylt also in the Dorfhotel. Last year we had a clean and fresh room with a balcony looking over the sea. Quite a beautiful room. This year we checked in at 15:30, 30 minutes after we understood checkin opened and we were given a room on the ground floor with no sea view, but instead a darker view of quite some weeds. We were also greeted with the outdoor furniture being indoors not allowing any access to the sofa (see photos). The room also didn’t feel so fresh, like we got the “bottom of the list” room and the smell from the fridge smelt like a cleaning room in a hotel - a very strong smell of disinfectant.  I asked for a different room and told that we were the last to checkin, which I was surprised at as we checked in only 30 minutes after the checkin was open.  Eventually we got a new room after some others paid for an upgrade. The room was treated to the same “outdoor furniture indoors” and a squashed fly graveyard on the ceiling - see the photo if you will.  When using the pool with our two year old daughter we were told that we couldn’t go into the main pool as she was wearing swim nappies. We regularly attend our local swimming pool in Hamburg and have never had this problem. A combination of these facts made us not really feel welcome at the hotel and question whether we’d want to stay again at the hotel next time we visit Boltenhagen. All in all a disappointing break compared with our last trip.

After reading critical reviews about this place and the corona situation limiting us to travel far, we decided to try vacationing here. We spent 5 nights in a 2-bedroom apartment here. Check-in and check-out were quick and uncomplicated. Reception staff were always friendly and helpful. We got a house near the boat marina. On this side of the complex, the buildings have many swallow nests thus bird excrement should be expected. The apartment is on the first floor which I think is perfect for a good view towards the water. On the ground floor pedestrian could look into the apartment. On the second flood would be too warm in summer. The apartment was clean. The toilet smell like old urine (we knew this beforehand from reviews so we‘d prepared ourselves mentally). The balcony was acceptable. Yes, there are bird excrement every where but not as bad as we thought it would be (again, from reading the reviews). We didn‘t hang out on the balcony. Instead we opened the glass door wide and sit in the living room. The bedrooms were clean and had blackouts and mosquito filter on the window. Build-in wardrobe with plenty of storage. A safebox is in one of the bedroom. The pillows do not provide enough support so I wished I had brought my own pillow. The kitchen was clean and had most utensils needed. A cutting board and a small knife were not there, so we called receptionist and they sent housekeeping to being us new ones. There is no oven, but one can order pizza to-go from their restaurant. The price is fair; 7€ for a 30cm pizza margherita. There is a discounter near the hotel (approx. 10 min. walk). A vacuum cleaner and mop in the apartment for in-between cleaning by ourselves. The swimming pool is very nice. The indoor pools are heated. The outdoor pool is not. One must call the receptionist or the poolhouse to reserve a swim time(max. 90 min.). We called 2 days in advance to get a spot. The beach is the biggest minus point for us. It is stony and has a lot of seegrass (tang) growing at the seaground, loose ones floating in the water (our legs getting tangled in them sometimes) and accumulating at the beach. We‘ve been to other beaches in this area (Lübecker Bucht, Kühlungsborn), but this was the worst so far (and that for the most money we had spent for accomodation). All in all, it is a nice place esp. for family with small kids. It was a nice change of view for us and the staff are very friendly and quick in response when we needed anything (handsoap or toilette paper refill), but we would rather spent the money for a clean and sandy beach next time.

Recommended for families, have an own beach, some attractions for kids. Negative points: bikes must be rented (paid) as well the small karts for kids, as well the tents on the beach, as well the towels...

The hotel is a group of houses along the Baltic Sea shore of Boltenhagen. We were there during the Easter Holidays, it was cold and snowing, so we had to imagine the place in fine weather. The hotel consists of a main house with reception and restaurant, nice appartment houses with a nice view to the Baltic Sea, and activity houses (pool house, adventure playground, the latter seperated between teens and youngsters). If one likes family-concept-vacation, Boltenhagen is probably a good choice. The breakfast was good. The staff was surprisingly bad at speaking and understanding English, so some German skills are necessary. Otherwise the staff is friendly.

This is an absolutely stunning hotel. My wife, our children and I stayed at their Boltenhagen location. When we arrived we were all amazed, to say the least - all the apartments are very large (we opted for one with two bedrooms - appx. 60m2) and has a balcony with a pictureesque vista over the sea (Ostsee). Everything is clean, luxorius, new and the interior decor is contemporary and cosy. The pictures on their website don't lie. The place has wonderfull facilities for families with children of all ages. The staff is so nice (love Germans - among friendliest and civilized in the world) and the service level is second to none! Everyone is just so professional and we got the feeling that the primary costumer at Dorfhotel is the little ones. We loved it and will return next year . maybe try their Flensee location :-) I would give it six stars, if the rating scale went that high and recommend to everyone - with or without children!
