Vila Gale Collection São Miguel

This hotel should be rated 5 stars but there are a few minor things management needs to work on. The hotel has an initial elegance to it. I stayed on two successive weeks and the experience was very consistent. The rooms are nicely sized, furnished and comfortable. On my first stay I had a room facing the fort and the traffic was a bit noisy but on my second stay I was on the back of the property and that room was quiet (but a long walk to get to). The front desk staff are great and very helpful. Unfortunately the breakfast is quite disorganized and they only have one egg station with a chef we never saw smile is 5 days. The queues for eggs in the morning can be very long on times. They never varied the breakfast selection once in our two says as far as we could see. I didn't use the spa but my friends did and they said it is an accident waiting to happen with the floors being lethally slippery so be very careful when walking around. The hotel is reasonably central and you can walk to a number of places from it. The assistant GM, Goncalo Nunes, is a real gentleman.

Great service, beautiful and well maintained. Pool closed too early if you explore the island you can't get back on time and they is no time to eat them swim before bed. Closed at 8 pm Breakfast buffet nice. Would definately stay there again. Knowledgeable, helpful staff. Great General Manager. Not too huge to navigate. Did not eat at restaurant other than breakfast, however did have burger at the Jazz club on site. Great central location. Fantastic overall. So close to fantastic restaurants with varsity of foods and price points.

Avoid! Stay somewhere else. The staff is inattentive, we asked for a kettle so that we could make tea in our room, we waited 10 hours only to be told there are no more kettles available. The same for the laundry service. Breakfast is very busy, noisy and it’s impossible to order even a coffee. Few options for the non-meat eaters. Stay away from this place.

Spectacular property very well managed. All staff were kind and attentive. The room was spotless, tidy and amazingly presented. The indoor swimming pool was a fantastic option to relax after a long day of walking. The sauna and steam room were kept to the highest standards. Breakfast and dinner were included in our room rate and we were glad to have chosen this option. Great food and even better service. We would like to thank all staff for making our stay a remarkable one. 100% recommended!

Had a 7 day stay at this lovely hotel at the beginning of March, very positive experience, we had half board which we feel is excellent value for money, the food has been first class, literally everything we eat was delicious so absolutely no complaints. Our room was very spacious and was of a good standard, to be honest it far exceeded our expectations. The hotel itself is very grand and has been renovated tastefully and to a very high standard. We used the spa facilities which were also of a good standard. Overall nothing to complain about, we have visited this island many times and I’m sure we will stay here again on our next visit. A big thank you to all the staff who worked so hard to make our stay a really special experience.
