Enotel Golf Santo de Serra

Very peaceful location up in the hills and ideal for walking and relaxing with excellent food and sizeable spa. The hotel has been recently refurbished to a high standard, but has also managed to maintain some of its unique charm by keeping birds and animals (outside in aviaries and pens!) and growing vegetables and herbs for the kitchen on the sizeable smallholding. There is very little to see or do in Santo da Serra, apart from walks around the hotel’s lovely gardens and nearby park - making car hire desirable, if exploring Madeira is part of your trip. Otherwise couldn’t fault the hotel - very comfortable and helpful staff. Would probably recommend a few nights stay - a week in such an isolated spot was just a little too long.

Very professional staff. Good English. Very helpful. One of us is Vegan. Staff very knowledge and told me what of the food was vegan. Even made me special vegan desert. Hotel immaculate. Beautiful views for sunrise and sunset. Very nature oriented in the secure with plants, etc. one of the best hotels we’ve stayed at. Had much food to chose fri. For breakfast and dinner. Food was varied and excellent.

The best feature of that hotel is certainly its location. Quiet area, strikingly beautiful nature. I would also recommend a buffet dinner of decent quality and variety. One may surely expect a lift at the hotel that brags with 4*. If you happen to travel with some heavy suitcases, you'd rather book a room with a garden view (more expensive, naturally). Booking a room with garden view gives you just a chance to stay at the ground floor. Rooms with street view are located on the first floor and you can't avoid the stairs.

Very nice hotel in an amazing location. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve experienced in 4-star hotels. The room was cleaned daily. The hotel is located quite high up, so we often returned to cloudy and chilly weather at the end of May — a pity, as we couldn't really enjoy the beautiful garden. The spa is amazing too. Overall, highly recommended! P.S. — Best market around on Sundays, just behind the church, only a 4-minute walk from the hotel.

This hotel is the top of the mountain. The buses are cheap €2.60 but the drivers are mostly crazy! They drive fast and swing around the hairpin bends making it an unpleasant journey ( nearly a hour!) The hotel should have shuttle buses! The hotel was clean but cold. The breakfast was great selection but hot food was lukewarm sadly. Restaurant was freezing. People wore coats! Staff were friendly I must say. The room beds were made daily and sheets changed after about 4 days. Towels changed too as no heat in the bathroom so towels did not dry in February. Mugs and glasses don’t get changed just washed in bathroom so not very clean we found. Mould around shower wasn’t nice Indoor pool was nice but have to wear robe past entrance and reception to get to it. Anyone can walk in with shoes on! No changing room. So wet swimsuit back to room. Small toilet you could struggle to change in . First bus 9am to Funchal - next is 12 noon . On return if you miss the 2pm it’s then 4.30pm. Nuisance. We would not return
