Hotel Erika

The hotel facilities are without compare - the room was enormous and it was well cleaned. The sauna and swimming pool were an unexpected extra that I could appreciate. The location - right next to the bus stop headed for the village as well as the slopes - impeccable. I have but one point of critique, and that is one that applies to all of Austria. When I come to breakfast a minute early, or a minute late, I am barred from entering. That part of the hospitality business can definitely be improved upon. Other than that, my stay was above and beyond expectation.

We came from Innsbruck and took a train that stopped in Landeck, Austria, and from there we took a bus to Martina, Switzerland then another bus to Nauders. The entire trip took 2 and a half hours. The bus to Nauders dropped us off within a 2 min walk from the hotel. Nauders is a small town and the hotel is very close to it. There's a grocery store very close by and other restaurants if you don't want to eat at the hotel everyday. We had a quick lunch at the hotel restaurant outside, they serve the tipical Austrian fare. The room was spacious and with a balcony shared by other guests in adjacent rooms. The sauna and indoor pool were great. Breakfast was plentiful with great choices of bread, fruits, yogurt, etc. We came to Nauders in the Summer to start a one-week supported bike tour from Nauders, Austria to Riva del Garda, Italy along the Adige River. We picked up our rental bikes at the Donau Turistik location in Nauders. The hotel has a great bike garage, but if you have a car, parking is free. Wifi was ok. Nauders is very close to both Italian and Swiss borders. We walked on beautiful nearby hiking trails with great views of Nauders. You can also take a gondola up to the mountain if you prefer. The Reschensee lake (in Italy) is not too far from Nauders and offers beautiful views of an alpine lake with the bell tower of a submerged church.

We arrived as the restaurant was closing but the owner accommodated us and we had a four course meal including a welcome drink. The rooms were of ample size, even with our skis etc' and are well heated. We slept with the window open. The ski store and drying room is in the basement and is excellent. You simply put your ski boots on, walk up the steps and the ski bus stops right outside. You are also the first pickup so you can get a seat. The food was absolutely fantastic. A 4 or 5 course meal each night which was served to you. There was a variation of courses through the week all to a high standard. The breakfast was continental which suited us all, again with a great variety to choose from. There was plenty of tea's and coffee's to choose from too. The bar area was very quit most of the time, but it is only a couple of minutes to walk into the town if you want something a bit more lively. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the area especially when Italy and Switzerland are just up the road. You can use it as a base for skiing, walking, mountaineering, mountain biking and much more.

The hotel has all the facilities needed to be a very good hotel. Rooms are clean and nice. Bus stop in front of the hotel but also possibility to ski all the way to the hotel. We were with a group of people and missed a little fun in the evenings. It is not a hotel where you want to spend a lot of time in the bar.

We recently returned from a ski holiday, staying at the Hotel Erika in Nauders. Overall, we were really pleased with the quality of the hotel and the resort in general. There were very few British tourists (which we kind of liked), with most guests being either German or Dutch. The journey from Innsbruck was fine - although we did have to leave the coach and take a taxi about an hour in - and were in the taxi about another 40 mins. The hotel itself is lovely, clean, warm (sometimes a little too warm!) and although many of the staff did not speak much English, we got along fine. The breakfast was very substantial - with a selection of cereals, fruit, lovely german breads, meats and cheeses, as well as boiled eggs, scrambled eggs and either bacon or sausage. The fruit juices were particularly interesting, with beetroot, kiwi and a mixture of others. Tea and coffee on tap, with again, some lovely selections of quality teas. Evening meals were, in the main very good - with a starter (usually soup), an appetizer, then the main course. Out of the 7 nights we were there, we had 2 meals that didn't really come up to expectations. The first was when we arrived, which to be fair, was after the dining room had closed - and the other was a fish main course - which had been over salted and well over cooked - which was a shame. Wine in the restaurant was quite pricey - but we found that ordering a quarter carafe each (which isn't on the wine list) was much cheaper. Bedrooms were large and comfortable - ours had a bath and balcony. The rooms did get very hot, and we had to leave the window and balcony door open at night to cool down (even though it was minus 10 outside! Pool and sauna were very good - but my partner and his brother were unhappy at the number of "young girls" who were allowed to come and go in and out of the sauna without supervision by a parent. The ski and boot room were good - with heated racks to hang damp / cold boots on at the end of the day. The ski bus stopped right outside the hotel (not 4 minutes away!)...it was literally up the steps from the boot room and you were there. We were a little disappointed with slopes on the first couple of days and they did not seem to piste it - so we were having to ski over lots of bumps. We thought it was maybe due to them trying to retain what snow they had. But luckily we got a couple of reasonable dumps of snow and the skiing for the rest of the weeks was great. Some of the blue / red slopes are a little difficult in places - but generally, it was glorious - with lots of trees and lovely scenery. The village itself is also very pretty - with a couple of interesting churches. Not sure about the apres ski as we weren't really looking for that - but there did seem to be a couple of bars in the village and a number of nice hotels. Overall a great holiday, would definitely consider going again.
