We recently stayed at The Elios Hill Hotel for 8 nights. We were instantly impressed by the aesthetics of the hotel. First impressions were ‘wow’. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The clue is in the title…it is on a hill and a very steep hill at that! Certainly not accessible for disabled people, but there are buggies that take you to where you need to go. Atmosphere: The main restaurants staff work incredibly hard and it is certainly understaffed. The main dining room is incredibly busy. Long queues for the pizza and omelettes. We found a lot of guests waiting for food for themselves and their families and consequently taking whole pizzas at a time, with no consideration for others. The adult only pool is really quiet and peaceful when families aren’t bringing their small children into it. I have come with my two children and wouldn’t dream of taking mine to an adult only area, especially when the children have an entire splash park to play in. Cleanliness: The hotel rooms are spotless and the cleaning staff make it look so beautiful everyday. The main dining room is full of dirty tables, we often had to fetch our own cutlery or wait a while for a table to be cleared. As mentioned previously, the staff work incredibly hard but it is understaffed in there and for a 5* hotel I don’t expect to enter a restaurant with filthy tables and food all over the floor. You often have a table full of dirty plates by the time you’ve finished your meal because they haven’t been cleared away. There are also a lot of flies in the dining room which is off putting. The hotel grounds are well kept and spotless, with the exception of the Splash Pool/Infinity pool area. Again, plates, cups and food all over the place. This is mainly due to the guests who can’t be bothered to put stuff in the bins but there is possibly one man I’ve seen walking round cleaning an entire pool area on his own. Again, not something I would expect from 5*. I’ve been to far cleaner 4* hotels. Entertainment: In fairness my children didn’t attend the kid’s club so I can’t give an opinion on this. But, the evening entertainment for the children was good. There was a mini disco at 8.15pm each night and a show afterwards. These were put on mainly by the entertainment team and they were good. A few entertainment staff could display a bit more enthusiasm but that’s just my take on it. The amphitheatre gets busy and was often crowded with people sitting on the steps, blocking the way of people going up and down the stairs which is not only selfish but dangerous. The staff need to monitor this. Food: The choice of food was varied but was always luke warm and often cold by the time you got back to your seat. Again, long queues for pizza at lunchtime and omelettes at breakfast. The al la carte restaurants were lovely, the Asian restaurant was superb! The waiter was really knowledgeable about the wines. Books in asap for the à la carte restaurants!!! The choice of drinks for a 5* hotel were average, the wine was out of a tap and the rose wine left a lot to be desired. A few branded drinks such as Bacardi, gin and vodka. The spa is definitely worth a visit, really peaceful, beautiful atmosphere and super friendly staff. Maria who did my treatment was amazing, so friendly and made me feel at ease! You can also use the facilities for free before or after your treatment. We came at peak time and never had to fight for sunbeds, that was a bonus. The man on the crepe stand was lovely, big shout out to him despite being faced with some incredibly rude entitled guests. We took a day trip on the pirate boat which was good fun and worth doing! Overall, we had a lovely holiday and although there have been some negatives, we didn’t let it spoil our holiday. I would say this is 5* in terms of appearance but definitely need to up their game in the areas mentioned (main restaurant/food/splashpark) to truly consider themselves to be a 5* hotel.
Elios Hill is an experience not just a stay. From the moment you enter the kindness and smiles of the staff take over. Don’t worry is all you here. Due to the disability of my son there was no doubt for them to change our room close to facilities. They were on it and we couldn’t get a closer room. Thank you Esther (massage) and Joanna (facial) from the spa for making me unwind and relax and feel reborn again!
Excellent location…food so good every day so much variety and top quality I have stayed in many hotels this the very best all inclusive…. Staff are amazing., accommodation, activities, snack all the best you could wish for …. Highly recommend I will be back family of 10 children 9 months to 13 years something for all
Overall, it was an enjoyable family holiday. PROs The food in the main restaurant was excellent. Good quality for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lots of options for everyone The Cloud Bar is a fantastic space for pre-dinner and post-dinner drinks. Cocktails very good served by professional bartenders The snack / drinks bars next to the family and adult-only pool also good. Weaker cocktails and the former has a crepe bar next to it The rooms were spacious enough with a good shower and decent air con. The staff and reps were all very hospitable and friendly The gym was a good place to work out at any time of day CONs We arrived late and didn't know how to switch the air con on. It wasn't clear that all windows needed to be shut. The phone to reception kept cutting out Hotel guests were completely unregulated. Small children were allowed to run around in restaurants and bars. People were late for the evening entertainment and literally walking in front of performers. Many guests were just plain rude and antisocial. FaceTiming people while sitting eating their meal, playing videos through their phones on speaker. Again, this was all unchecked. The A La Carte restaurants were disappointing, especially the Asian one. The staff were trying their best but this offered an inferior experience to the main restaurant rather than a superior one. A mixture of poor food quality and allowing them to become a children's playground. How would I improve Elios Hill? By ensuring that there's a code of conduct. I know people are on holiday but there's no manager / security / authority who is able to oversee situations. The a la carte restaurants need regulation. What is the point of allowing small children to run around and spoil the experience for better behaved families who want to have a nice meal.
7-night stay at Elios Hill, travelling from London with our son(12) and daughter(8). We enjoyed a lot. The staff were amazing and made us feel very welcome, especially with the kids. Special thanks to Eftihmios, the restaurant manager, Gianluca, the lifeguard, Iro and Angelo at the pool snack bar, Alexandra and her husband at the Asian restaurant, and all staff. The water park and pool .were fantastic for the kids, and the food at the Mexican, Japanese and Greek restaurants was very good. Excellent service from start to finish from everyone.if We come back to Crete we wouldstay at Elios Hill again!
