Minos Ambassador Suite Hotel & Spa

Truly one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. The rooms are beautiful and very luxurious, the service is unmatched and the staff are friendly and kind! The hotel is very close to the city of Rethymno, easily at walking distance.

This hotel is rated 5 star but compared to many hotels we have stayed at, this is a 4 star at the most. 5 star price for a 4 star hotel which is frustrating when there other, better options nearby. Clever advertising and photos! Not the best of welcomes as, although booked and paid for a week stay, we were not on their list of arrivals! Rooms near to the main road are very noisy....there is traffic noise for most of the night. We asked to move towards the back of the hotel. Rooms are fine but supplies of tea and coffee are stingey. The reception area is quite barren and unwelcoming. There is a sort of games room near the entrance which looks a mess and hardly 5 star. However, the staff are generally very pleasant and helpful.

Once arriving at the hotel we were taken To the Minos Hotel which is classed as 4 star with families. Once registering with reception we were taken over to the Ambassador adults only classed as a 5 star. Local taxes were extremely high at 105 euros. In my opinion this is not a 5 star hotel. I have stayed in many over the years. The room we were allocated although very nice looked onto derelict corrugated building. The pool and dining area are on the roof top. There were plenty of sunbeds although the head cushions were ripped at the ties which attach to the bed and some very stained. You had to be careful accessing the pool by the metal steps. They felt unsteady and slippery on the hand rail when getting out. The food was average although plenty of choice. The staff at times looked like they did not want to be there but did their job The spa was well kept and managed offering a 15 minute free massage. My husband opted for a foot massage but she only massaged his legs. I had a foot and back massage, paid for which was wonderful.Would I go again to this hotel - no, not 5 star

A lovely hotel with very friendly staff, but I would state it’s 4* only. So we have had a hiccup with Booking.com which did not and has not helped. So we had a confirmed booking and due to the extra tourist tax the hotel did not collect enough so our booking was cancelled. Fast forward and eventually this was resolved. Be aware. So the hotel is part of 2 sites and adults only and a more package holiday type linked by a bridge. The rooms are very nice but the views from the rooms are barely see view. AC work well and rooms have great showers and all the facilities you need and are probably bigger than most. The hotel is modern clean and very nice, breakfast and Silver the waitress and the older gentleman are so helpful caring and nice. The cook she never smiles and normally gets the orders wrong. That said the rules of ordering and getting a coffee after 10:30 is very strict, it’s like a mission to charge. Of charges as soon as you have your drinks your bill is immediately provided and signature is demanded it’s like there is no trust. If you have any dietary concerns stay clear!! Most food is not labels and there is no allergens detailed. In sufficient tongs at the buffet etc The massage manager is very good at getting bookings and again the demand for pre payment in advance is like a disease of miss trust. Pool towels we were told are available, but only at reception, again no stack by the pool or nearby. The food is average. They make a good effort to produce good and nice fresh food but it was not to our taste and the menus are old and tatty. The pool bar is excellent and the barman is friendly helpful and does a great cocktail. Would I return, probably not. I would want a closer beach location and definitely would not consider HB as the buffet and offering is not what we want or like.

Fantastic hotel, with amazing service. The staff is very warm and welcoming, and it doesn't feel forced. The room is cleaned as soon as you leave, and the standards surpassed my expectations. Great rooftop pool, and close to the beach. The food is really good and they have a great selection for both pescatarians and vegans. All in all, a fantastic experience!
