Porto Platanias Beach Luxury Selection

Just returned from a 10 day holiday in Porto Platanias Beach Luxury Selection - our second stay with them. Everything about this hotel is just as we like. The premises are in top condition - its near the end of the season, and it looks as if it has just opened. Walkways are spotless, grounds are well cared for, sunbeds all working, no marks on paintwork. Staff could not be nicer - always a friendly smile, nothing ever a problem, always anxious to help. Reception check in and check out was seamless. Terrific selection of quality spirits and lovely cocktails. Huge range of breakfast options, to suit visitors from all corners of Europe and beyond. Dinner in the main dining room was stylish, and reasonably priced. Situated right by the beach, and within a short walk of a range of good quality restaurants. And the staff were only too anxious to help when one of us felt unwell. This is a super hotel - we strongly recommend it, and we will have very happy memories of our holiday.

PRO's -Management stepping in after a rocky start -Most Staff We were upgraded to a studio which meant we had a bigger room with a couch area. CON's -Design is terrible with studio rooms not having any windows in the lounge area -ventilation is poor so you have to open the sliding door to ventilate the bathroom after a shower -beds sag so not great for bad backs-I slept on the couch ; thankfully the manager had that made up for me -Quality of building, rooms, furniture etc are not anywhere near 5 star. We are staying in a 3 star in Plakias which is absolutely beautiful and is really much more in keeping with a 5 star category much more than this hotel was.

Firstly I would just like to say that the staff at this hotel were amazing. The grounds of the hotel are kept spotless. Rooms are cleaned everyday to a good standard and towels changed daily. The hotel is in a prime location with lots of bars and restaurants a stones throw away but unfortunately that is where it ends. I would agree with other reviews that this is definitely not a 5 star hotel maybe 4 star at best. We had booked a standard room with Garden/Pool view. On arrival I was very surprised at how uninviting and basic the reception area was. We checked in and taken to our room which was on 2 levels. Downstairs had a bed settee, bathroom, wardrobe, fridge but was Very dark and dismal with a tiny balcony at the side of a public stairway and overlooked an area where old sunbeds were kept and hose pipes. Upstairs was a small bedroom, bathroom and a tiny wardrobe not big enough for 2 people and very little other storage. The balcony upstairs was a little bit bigger but still small and overlooked the side road/carpark. The next morning we reported to reception that we were not happy with our room to be told it was an upgrade which we were not made aware of when checking in and we felt that the staff on reception took this quite personal because they had upgraded us. Anyway they showed us the room we were meant to be in and offered a room change. We looked at the room which was a better lay out but still overlooked the carpark, no garden or pool to be seen so we didn't accept the room. Why should some people who have booked and paid the same money for a room with Garden/Pool view get what it is advertised as and others get a car park view. In the second second day we were offered another room by the pool and with a garden which we were very happy with until we realised it was next door to what I can only describe as a pump room with every hour during the night a pump kicked in for about 5 minutes each time but we didn't want to complain or move again so just put up with it. Breakfast choice was lovely but the seating situation was very disorganised and if you were lucky enough to get a table after 9:30 that was set there was always something missing like coffee cups, spoons, salt and pepper. I felt I was always having to ask for something. We only ate at the hotel once in the evening when we had had rain and there were buckets catching dripping water all over the place and the restaurant area was just very tired in places, windows had dropped exposing a large gap and dead plants. The sunbeds around the pool were very nice and comfortable but the area was very cramped. There were free sunbeds on the beach which was lovely but again there were loads of old broken sunbeds all piled up which for a 5 star hotel you just don't expect this. PS we never normally complain about anything on holiday but I just felt that there was a lot wrong with this *5 Star* hotel and am very disappointed when we could have spent our hard earned cash going to a different hotel.

Lovely hotel, fantastic staff and it’s immaculate! On the beach, easy walking distance to Platanias & Agia Marina. Breakfast is amazing! There’s everything! We had a very chilled out, no rush, no worries holiday. We ate out every night and some lunches too. There’s so many options. We also walked up to the old town of both resorts which was really lovely. We got the bus to Chania and back twice in the week. Seen it day and night. It’s a must, just stunning! Especially at sunset. We were upgraded to a suit on the ground floor which was huge. It made our week!

Checked out this morning after 10 days. I’m not sure where the reference to luxury comes from as there was little luxurious in room 105. The room was an odd layout with limited space to get into the mini fridge - so much so my husband cut his toe twice. The wardrobe was also very small for two people which meant that we had to keep some of our clothes in our suitcases which is the first time I’ve ever needed to do so after many holidays in Greece. Room 105 is situated next to a laundry room as well so we could hear the dryers were in use in the early mornings and we could hear the staff talking at times. I did think about asking to be moved but the actual location of the room in relation to the pool and the restaurant was accessible albeit noisy. The internet was very poor for most of our stay which was also annoying for hotel supposedly of this standard. The private beach area was nice though, the pools also nice although the sunbeds were too close together. The staff in the restaurant were also very helpful and friendly. The food was pretty good too. I would not look to return to this hotel unfortunately and don’t consider it to be good value for money reflecting on the price paid and would exercise caution for anyone else being allocated room 105!
