TUI SUNEO Althea Village

A lovely hotel, set in a quiet area in Daratsos, a short walk to amenities , shops, restaurants and bus route. Rooms were spotlessly clean and spacious, shampoo / soap in the bathrooms with white fluffy towels. Beds were comfy, air conditioning cooled the room well. Restaurant offered a varied selection of good quality food, with lots of choice and little repetition over the week we were there. Bar staff were helpful , restaurant staff were very pleasant and helpful, the whole dining area was kept clean throughout each breakfast / lunch / dinner. Self service hot and cold drinks were available all day. The hotel had a relaxed atmosphere, the grounds are very well maintained and blossoms added lovely colours throughout the complex.. Its certainly a place I'd return. Entertainment - we gave this a miss as it's not our thing so can't comment. The gyros / snack bar is a great addition with tasty food from 11am til 6pm.

First, I would like to mention the positive aspects. The gardens and the entire hotel grounds are very well maintained. The rooms are clean and thoroughly cleaned every day, the beds are comfortable, and the bedding is of good quality. The staff are very friendly, especially the Asian staff members working in the main restaurant. The pool areas are also very pleasant, with a great choice of music. Unfortunately, the biggest downside is the food, particularly lunch and dinner. The meat is simply not good: it is dry and of poor quality. The fish, when it is available, which is quite rare, is bland. Breakfast is decent, although the scrambled eggs looked as if they had been made from powdered egg mix. The desserts are also disappointing, as they taste artificial and seem to be of lower quality. Another thing we did not particularly like was how sparsely equipped the room was. Basic amenities such as a kettle and tea-making facilities were missing. Having only one glass provided per room was also a little strange. These are perhaps not major issues that would ruin a stay, but I have stayed in hotels with fewer stars that offered much better-equipped rooms. To sum up, I would not recommend this hotel because the food significantly lowers the overall standard. It is a shame, because apart from that, the hotel itself is very impressive.

Recommended family friendly, all inclusive. Chocolate spa for the children was a great experience, very good massasje. Good food, great variety and selection for all ages. Three different pool areas to choose from. 10 min Walk to the Beach, 10 min taxi to old town. In total a very good stay for us ☀️⭐️🌸🇬🇷💙

Very Disappointed We were extremely disappointed with our holiday at TUI Althea Village in Crete. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell well below what we expected from a 4-star TUI all-inclusive holiday. The hotel was advertised as being in the Chania area. However, Chania was approximately an hour's walk away. We appreciate that "Chania area" does not necessarily mean being in the centre of Chania, but the description gave us the impression that we would be reasonably close and able to access Chania easily. In reality, it was a considerable distance away and much less convenient than we had anticipated. The room was also disappointing. There was no kettle, cups or tea/coffee-making facilities, which we would have expected as basic facilities in a hotel of this standard. The food was nothing special and was very repetitive, with very little variation from one day to the next. We quickly became bored with the limited choice and felt that the quality and variety did not meet our expectations. The drinks were an even bigger disappointment. There was a cocktail menu displayed at the bar with a selection of popular cocktails and mocktails. At the beginning of our holiday, I ordered a "Sex on the Beach". Within seconds, I was handed a small plastic cup containing what looked and tasted very much like Fanta or a fruit-flavoured soft drink. There was no presentation, fruit or garnish, and nothing about the drink resembled the cocktail shown or described on the menu. My husband ordered a cocktail as well and was given almost exactly the same-looking drink. We wondered how the drinks were being prepared so quickly, and it didn't take long for us to realise that the cocktails appeared to be coming from a tap operated by a button rather than being freshly prepared by the bar staff. They appeared to be pre-mixed rather than made to order, which was extremely disappointing. We were expecting the cocktails advertised on the menu, not what essentially appeared to be fruit-flavoured soft drinks served in small plastic cups. We also questioned whether there was any meaningful amount of alcohol in the drinks, as neither of us could taste much, if any, alcohol. The lager was another disappointment as it was flat. All drinks were served in small plastic cups, both during the day and in the evening. This made the whole drinks experience feel very basic and far below what we expected from a 4-star all-inclusive hotel. Even something as simple as making a cup of tea was unnecessarily difficult. If you wanted tea from the snack bar, there was never any milk available there. Milk was only available by going to the bar staff and asking for it, meaning you had to leave the snack bar, queue at the bar and wait to ask for milk. Combined with there being no kettle or tea/coffee facilities in our room, this was very disappointing. The pool bar was the only bar available at the hotel. It was situated outside, with only part of the seating area covered by a lean-to roof. There was no proper indoor bar area where guests could sit comfortably in the evenings. As the temperature dropped, we were left sitting outside in the cold if we wanted to have a drink, as there was no suitable indoor alternative. The outside bar could have been made considerably more comfortable with some relatively simple improvements, such as patio heaters and cushions on the chairs. The seating was not particularly inviting or comfortable, especially during the cooler evenings, and there appeared to be little provision to make the outdoor area suitable when the temperature dropped. The toilet facilities serving the pool and bar area were also inadequate. There was only one ladies' toilet and one gents' toilet serving the entire pool/bar area. Considering the number of guests using these facilities, we did not feel that two toilets in total were sufficient. For a hotel being sold to us as a 4-star property, the standard and provision of these facilities fell below what we reasonably expected. Overall, we were particularly disappointed by the difference between what we expected from the holiday and what was actually provided. The location was further from Chania than we had anticipated, the room lacked basic facilities, the food was repetitive, the drinks were extremely basic, the lager was flat, drinks were served in small plastic cups throughout the day and evening, and there was no comfortable indoor bar area. I don't like to grumble, and we don't expect everything to be perfect when we go on holiday. However, holidays are special times for most people and they cost a significant amount of money. We had planned and looked forward to this holiday for a long time, so to come home feeling disappointed is genuinely upsetting. We paid a considerable amount for what was supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable holiday, and unfortunately we did not feel that we received the standard or experience we had been led to expect. It is particularly disappointing when you have saved, planned and looked forward to a holiday for so long, only to return home feeling that it simply wasn't what you had hoped for. We hope TUI will take our comments seriously and recognise why we feel so let down by this holiday. Would I book this hotel again? Absolutely not. Based on our experience, we would not choose to stay at TUI Althea Village again. The overall standard, food, drinks and facilities fell well below what we expected from a 4-star TUI all-inclusive holiday, and we came home feeling genuinely disappointed after looking forward to this holiday for such a long time.

Just had a week here from 24 Sept. The hotel is spotless and all the staff are friendly and helpful. We had a superior family room which looked as if it had been newly renovated. Beautiful room with plenty of space. (403) There was a double bed (not twins pushed together). There was a safe (free of charge) and a fridge with 2 bottles of water in it plus a kettle. Huge TV in the living room area. The bathroom had a lovely rainfall shower and the water was always hot. Hairdryer provided in the bathroom. Air con looked new and worked superb. Individual controls in both the bedroom and the living rooms area. Pools were great - always beds available. Tennis court and table tennis on site. Giant chessboard too! There is a good gym across the road in the other hotel building. Food - great choice and always replenished throughout the service times. You cannot go hungry this hotel. Fabulous little buffet section for children too! Constant access to drinks throughout the day / evening. We found the wine to be fine to drink! It is somewhere we’d have stayed longer if we could have! You cannot go wrong in choosing this hotel!
