TUI SUNEO Althea Village

We had a lovely stay at this hotel overall. The hotel was very clean, our room was nice and comfortable, and the bed was really comfy. The pool areas were also lovely, with plenty of sunbeds available, making it easy to relax and enjoy the sunshine. The restaurant staff were friendly, welcoming and always pleasant. However, the food selection was quite limited for an all-inclusive stay. It often felt like the same food was being served every day, so there wasn’t much variety and found ourselves eating out multiple times. This is definitely an area that could be improved by offering a wider selection and changing the food more regularly. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and found the hotel clean, comfortable and relaxing. The friendly staff, lovely pool areas and comfortable room were all positives, but more variety and choice with the all-inclusive food would have made the experience even better. The gyros was a 10/10!

We loved it. Simple. (Go to the bottom if you want some tips) Location for us was absolutely spot on. Not too far for the airport transfer, and a 10 minute stroll to the beaches (Yes, there are a few). I always say that Staff make the hotel, and every single member, from the Gardeners, maintenance, cleaners, waiters & management etc, are all striving to give you the best holiday experience. The hotel itself is laid out in a Cretan Village style, with an abundance of flowers and foliage to give it a mature feel. Its beautiful. Food wise, it's a solid 4 star food experience, & you can choose to sit out on the terrace, or inside. It's not all Nuggets and chips, but you can get them. Also, the Gyros etc from the Snack bar are spot on too. Pool wise, we opted for the bottom pool, which is very child friendly, & very chilled. The clientele at the hotel were international, which gave it a true holiday feeling. Entertainment in the daytime and evenings, we didn't really do, but the Greek Night we did see was superb. Its not a full on entertainment hotel in my opinion, more of a chilled out, relaxed high end kind of place. The negative - The in house cocktails are not the best. It's been said before, so will leave it at that. Come on, there had to be a negative. :) We would return in a heartbeat to this Hotel. Ive never slept so much :) TIPS- 1: If you go to the beach, go the bottom pool, cross the road, and go down the narrow alleyway, turn right at the end and follow the road past the Olive Grove, wave to the elderly gentleman on the right, cross the main road at the bottom, turn left, then first right, and this will bring you to Sunset Beach. Or cross over the car park at the beach to Iguana Beach, which was our preference. Chilling with a beer on the beach. 2: Get the Bus into Chania (Stunning) 3: Go on the Daneri Yachts afternoon catamaran to Balos Lagoon. By the time you get there, all the other tourists have left. 4: Pop and have a Coffee or Smoothie at Lillys Coffee & Snacks. (Support local) 5: Pop to the Barbers next door to the coffee shop for a trim. 6: If you need a break from All Inclusive, try Taverna Dimitris & Saki. The Fillet Steak is to die for (Support local) P.S - No Sun Bed wars. P.P.S - Relax and enjoy the Holiday Management - Don't forget the Pink Roof :)

We absolutely loved this hotel, nice rooms, and brilliant staff including the manager who was very hands on. We really enjoyed the food - so much choice & lots of delicious Greek dishes! We stayed for 2 weeks & didn't get bored at all. We can't comment on the lunches as we went out every day but we tried the gyros at the snack bar which were great! The bar area is lovely and the wine & beer good. Cocktails were far too sweet for my liking and the G&T was awful but didn't spoil our stay. Plentiful soft drinks & water on tap! Nightly entertainment was okay - usual fare for this type of hotel. We tend to dine late so it wasn't an issue. The grounds are really well kept with plentiful plants & old olive trees. We hired a car for the fortnight & used the hotel as a base so we never used the pool area - so many places to visit! Chania & Rethymno are both beautiful and we also went to Kokkino Chorio to visit the gorgeous glass factory where we bought 2 vases. Other places further afield which are well worth a visit if you get a car are Kalyvaki/Georgioupoli beaches, ancient Aptera, Monestary Kalithiko, Souda War Cemetery, pretty village of Gavalohori, over the stunning White Mountains to Frangokestello (beach & castle), a walk through Imbros Gorge and the stunning beach at Falasarna (very commercial & very expensive for sunbeds but crystal turquoise sea). Local beaches are very good too - we used Golden Beach as it was less crowded than the others. Synka supermarket is really good if you need picnic food/drinks for the beach and gorgeous ice cream at To Pagoto in the village. Booked this holiday thinking it was out of school holidays not considering European holidays, so there were a lot more children there than expected! But it wasn't a problem just a consideration for future stays. And it was great for families! Requested a quiet room but got placed very near the pool/restaurant but again not a problem as we didn't experience excessive noise. Would we stay again - definitely!! Just maybe a couple of weeks earlier to avoid so many children!!

Checked reviews before making booking, which were very positive indeed. I have to say that following our holiday, I agree whole heartedly with them. Great hotel in a good location. Friendly and welcoming staff. Clean and fresh all the time. Beds in hotel room very comfy. Rooms spacious and cleaned daily. Air conditioning worked superbly. Food was plentiful and to a good standard. Always had options and felt it was replenished regularly. Drinks always available from machines. Cocktails were not the best, but then it is all inclusive so you get what you expect. Pools were lovely and not over crowded. Never an issue getting sun beds and everyone seemed to remove towels when not in use (no hogging). This was a breathe of fresh air! Gym facilities were very good and catered for most users. Plenty of restaurants nearby and cafes/bars to visit. The beach was a short walk away and this was lovely! Nice views and sunsets! The bus stop was at the bottom of the hill by the BMW garage and easy to use. About 7 Euros for a family of 5 each way into Chania as a guide. We avoided paying the fees for TUI organised excursions and decided to sort out own trips/days out. The transfers to and from the hotel organised through Tui were great. Only about 35-40 mins max. Night entertainment was not great, but we were not expecting too much and we made our own fun and went our to explore places. Would I revisit this place again, absolutely! Would I recommend to others, yes!

Travelled early July. On arrival we were greeted by lovely friendly reception staff. We had booked 2 rooms as was travelling with our 20+ daughter. We hoped to be close to each other but unfortunately were not that close but they offered us a 2 bed apartment instead which was really lovely so we went with that. It was in a perfect position between the quiet pool and the dining room, and quiet. The hotel is very laid back. No long trousers needed in the dining room for men which is nice. The food was good, plenty of choice for breakfast. Lunch and dinner was good but there was quite a lot of very similar dishes as the week went on and we did eat out a couple of nights, once in Chania and once at a local Taverna. In Chania there are so many restaurants you are spoilt for choice so definitely worth eating at least once there. The cleanliness of the hotel we couldn’t really fault. The towels were changed frequently and the bedding also. Everyone was so friendly, from the waiters to the bar staff to the reception staff. We had a problem with the shower draining which we had resolved really quickly and after that was fine. Value for money it was on a par with other places we have stayed at on an all inclusive basis. There was things going on by the main pool during the day like aqua areobics etc but we prefer sunbathing by the quiet pool and relaxing. The evening entertainment was the only thing that made me give this hotel a 4 star. We like to eat between 8-8.30, but the entertainment started about 9.00pm so was usually still in the restaurant, which is fine, our choice, but the entertainment was usually finished by 10.15 which is early when you are on holiday. We fell in love with Chania, just 4km from Daratso. It has so much character, is charming, endless choice of shops and restaurants and you can watch the sunset from the harbour which is beautiful. The bus runs regularly, about every 15 mins and is €1.30 each way paying by ticket machine, €2.30 paying on the bus. We had a really lovely holiday and would definitely stay at Althea village hotel again, despite giving it 4 stars for the choice of food, we would just choose to eat out a couple of times again.
