Zeus Hotels Neptuno Beach

We stayed in room 309 and had amazing views across the bay and of the hills from our balcony. We had a week of cloudy days and the view was still spectacular (photos from day 1). The air conditioning unit and ceiling fan were great. Kept us warm on the chilly days and cool on the warmer ones. The bed was very comfortable. The pool area and beach were great. The food overall was good. We particularly enjoyed the Souvlaki on the Sunday. The restaurant staff were fantastic, managing reduced table numbers due to the weather on several days while we were staying. Local bus services to Heraklion and the airport were frequent and reliable from the top of the road, as were the hop on hop off sightseeing bus. Tacos on on first night had what tasted like Chinese vegetables in which neither of us liked. One off meal over 7 days wasn't bad going.We would have like to have seen more greek dishes on the menu. Knowing what entertainment was on each night would have been nice so we could plan when to go to dinner. Guests were smoking on the balcony next to us. As nonsmokers this was off-putting. There was a fire alarm at 11pm one evening to which most guests were unsure if to take seriously. Someone a few rooms from us said this was the third in a week. Maybe this had something to do with smoking in the rooms and the bad weather? Soundproofing of the rooms could be improved. We could hear conversations in the corridor and the lift door being closed. Luckily we are deep sleepers.

Don't book a standard room. The room we had booked was through easyJet but the rooms shown were very misleading. The standard room was near a central light well meaning it was very cramped and very old fashioned with old dark brown furniture. It was very dark and dingy with a damp smell, more 2 star than 4 star. We upgraded at cost to a superior room, far more modern and roomy and more like a 4 star. It was all inclusive however note this hotel does not have a proper bar or lounge in the main building. The bar is located outside at the other end of the pool so any drinks, even coffee can only be had from the bar. Coffee machines available at breakfast in the dining rooms but only then. I found it awkward with the bar as the weather was bad while we were there so going out in the rain with no shelter just to get a coffee is quite frankly a poor show and a deliberate ploy to limit the drinks they are supplying. On the upside there was rarely a queue and the staff were very good they work long hours and are always on the go and work very hard to make your stay great. It's a shame it's let down by the owners policies. The daytime snacks were not great. Food in the dinner was overall okay but very limited veggie options for my partner and not clearly labelled as such and everything was only just vaguely warm even if you got there early. It was rarely hot. I have been to four other all inclusive resorts and this is hotel is nowhere as good. It is however right on the beach and a good one at that but not much about shops or entertainment wise unless you're prepared to walk a long way. It's not an area I would back too. It's a bit run down in places. Maybe consider the resorts further away like Chania.

From a Cornish/English view. The hotel is clean all round and the staff are nice and friendly. They work incredibly hard to keep people happy. The pool and bar is outside and pool is a bit small but clean. We opted for a standard room which was clean with a comfortable bed the air conditioning worked fine. As for breakfast and lunch it was quite standard all inclusive food. Unfortunately the evening meal was a real let down, just very boring and repetitive, They seem to cater very well for Germans that seem to be the majority of the guests. The evening entertainment was fairly boring. Getting into Herkalion the capital town is very easy and about 15 minutes bus ride where there's loads of clubs and bars and some good restaurants.
