Grupotel Mar de Menorca

got to the hotel early and surprisingly enough our room was ready, at check in i paid the tourist tax of 46 euros i then asked about a safety deposit box and was charged another 18 euros ( felt a bit ripped off by this ). there was no porter service which i thought was really poor after a long journey you had to hike your luggage down several steps across a road and up more stairs to the accommodation. the hotel is basically a small complex with accommodation separate in blocks similar to Butlins, the pool area is a little run down with broken tiles visible and sunbeds are crammed in so you have no room to manoeuvre, the buffet restaurant was under staffed and dishes on tables meant you were always looking for a clean table once you got a table you had to go and fetch your own cutlery, food was ok some days good the next, but a very small selection you were limited, the entertainment area was in the only bar in this hotel so you no choice but to go there for a drink and then there was always a queue, my opinion is this hotel is not disabled friendly as ramps are limited and the is only one lift in the complex itself, the hotel boast a beach 500m away that isn't the case its down a big hill and its only a small cove. overall based on the basic accommodation the school canteen experience in the restaurant and the overall signs of neglect to the tired pool area and in other areas of this hotel it only just makes a 3 star at best.

This hotel is such a family friendly hotel and surrounding area. Located in Es Canutells it’s away from the busy towns but doesn’t feel out of the way. Public transport and taxis can easily get you to the more busy side of the island in no time at all. The staff are outstanding. The bar staff work tirelessly to be able to serve the hundreds of staff there each and every day from 10am - midnight. The reception team are forever on hand for any and all questions. If you need an extra pillow or anything guests simply just call and then within 30 minutes someone is at your apartment door with what you needed. The pool is massive and there is 2 pools. The lifeguards make the pool such a fun but safe time for everybody. A special shoutout to Barbara and Ross who are always constantly seen to be watching the pool making sure that everyone in the water and around the pool are safe and are quick to react if anything happens. Their number one priority is always the safety of the guests. You are provided pool towels by the hotel and you are able to change them Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays at the main lifeguard station near the bar area. While I visited in September this year there was a medical emergency with a man who ended up going to hospital but until the paramedics arrive Ross & Barbara never left his side. Constantly giving him the attention required to ensure he was safe and out of harms away until the paramedics arrived. The hotel is VERY LUCKY to have staff like these 2 lifeguards at their hotel because they truly are the unsung heroes of Mar De Menorca. The lifeguards also have multiple medical equipment such as blood sugar monitor, blood pressure monitor and also a pulse reader that I know of. This is an amazing thing for them to have if anyone does suffer with any of these issues. I’m sure that if someone with high blood pressure or diabetes needed to check their levels the lifeguards would be more than happy to help out and check it for the guest to try and easy their worry and reassure them using the equipment and then also point them in any way needed depending on the result. I truly hope that the hotel recognises all of their hard work and they are at the hotel for many years to come because staff like these are what makes a hotel what it is and Grupotel Mar De Menorca truly is something special with the current staff they have at the hotel. There is 2 shops located on the resort. One smaller gift and inflatable shop and then a mini supermarket with everything you could possibly need and all the staff are so lovely. The supermarket has toiletries, drinks, snacks, baby products and Sun creams and everything you could think of.

The rooms are large, we had 1 bedroom top floor apartment with view of pool. Windows block out the music. Not enough brollies. The food is tasty usual all inclusive with themed nights. Lots of flies in restaurant but never had bad guts. The drinks terrible. Watered down syrup and acid wine. Bought my own from local shop. Small beach down steep hill. Bus into centre ideal Ear pods stolen from room by cleaner as the safe is additional cost. Only day we let cleaner in room and they stole them. Ideal for families with small children other than no shade

An absolute gem ! Can’t wait to go back.
