Riu Sri Lanka

Had a great visit! Clean, great food and drinks. Plane left late home, but hotel let us stay the whole day. Gehan Sadaruwan at RiuFun was the best - Played with all kids in the pool!

What an amazing vacation and so pleased that I stumbled upon Riu Hotels whilst planning my Sri Lankan holiday. From the Etihad flights to the Aitken Spence transfers, from the hotel's location and facilities to the unwavering cheerfulness and friendliness of the staff - everything was first class. Hotel room was large and comfortable - only criticism was that we were directly over the entertainment even though we had asked for a quiet location. We should have gone back to Reception and asked to be moved but we couldn't face packing everything back into suitcase and the hassle involved. Our room stewards were amazing: the room was always serviced whilst we were having breakfast and we would return to a spotless room with a different towel animal creation every day. We even had a towel 'birthday cake' and happy birthday spelt out of leaves which must have taken ages to do. Thank you so much to both our room stewards, Rangana and Dindsu. The pools were great and we learned to wait for guests to go for dinner and then pools would be almost deserted. Food was good and varied and the speciality restaurants well worth a visit. Book early on the app! Yes, the weekends were both very busy but we had read this from other reviews and knew what to expect. Midweek was much quieter. All staff, without exception, were polite, friendly and had a smile on their faces when they greeted us, despite working long hours. Tuk Tuks outside the hotel were very pushy and persistent. We booked our own tours online direct with the owners and tried to avoid being pushed into things we didn't want to do. We had an amazing vacation and will definitely return to Sri Lanka and Riu. This was our second visit to the Riu Hotel Ahungalla, and once again, we had an amazing experience exploring Sri Lanka with Asya Tours. We visited Kandy and Yala National Park, and everything was perfectly organised. The driver was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable about the local areas. Asya Tours arranged excellent day trips for us at a reasonable price, making our holiday even more enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone staying at Riu Ahungalla or nearby who wants a reliable, comfortable, and well-planned Sri Lanka experience!

I stayed at the Riu Hotel in Ahungalla recently and had such a lovely, relaxing time. The staff were all so warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and the service throughout the week was excellent. My room was spotless and refreshed daily, and I really appreciated the small touches like the towel animals that made me smile after a day in the sun. The food was great with plenty of variety – the buffet especially – and the pool areas were clean, well looked after, and never felt overcrowded. The beach just outside the resort is stunning to walk along, even if the sea can be a bit rough at times. A special mention has to go to Lomdis Prasantha Tours, located right on the beach at the resort. They were brilliant – so friendly and helpful, arranging several trips for us during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble, and they made exploring Sri Lanka really easy and enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend booking through them if you want to see more of the island beyond the hotel. Also a big thank you to Sajith and the housekeeping team who looked after us so well – everything was immaculate. All in all, it was exactly the restful, cheerful break I needed before heading home, and I left feeling genuinely cared for. I’d happily return and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend both the Riu Sri Lanka and Lomdis Prasantha Tours to anyone planning a trip.
