Huus Gstaad

Came here on a family trip with my husband and 9 year old daughter and had a great experience. Only stayed here 2 nights, but here are my overall thoughts. Transportation: The town is small and the hotel has 2 vans they use to help transport hotel guests. They will pick you up from the Saanen train station, but be sure to call in advance to plan for it. They can take you to the train station too, but again you need to tell them in advance. If you can't get a hotel van, they can call a taxi for you. Hotel Rooms: We had a one bedroom with a loft. Our daughter loved the loft. The space was limited and it wasn't comfortable with our 2 big suitcases, but we made it work. The bed was very hard and pillows very thin. I'm from Texas and am not used to no bed sheets and just a comforter. Rooms have a heater you don't control, so open the window if you need more air. Food: We ate in the restaurant and ordered from the bar menu. I have celiac disease and appreciated that they had gluten free bread and pasta. Both were really good. My daughter loved her pasta and my husband had a good burger. The cheese on the burger is specific to Switzerland and not a taste he is used too, but okay. Staff was nice and accommodating. I liked the service. The breakfast was good. Plenty of egg and meat options with pastries and cereals. Even I found a delicious gluten free corn flakes cereal I liked. Atmosphere: I loved the modern eclectic vibe. The hotel smelled clean and looked nice. Our room had no issues for me to complain about. No noise issues like the other reviewer had. We were on the 3rd floor.

It was a third time staying at Huus Gstaad though will likely be our last. Cons: -we had an room upgrade though they put us in a room closest to the lobby area. We have 2 young children, 1 of them got sick part way into our stay and on that night he was sick, we learned they have a DJ with thumping music until 3am on Sundays! We had to wait until 3am to start sleeping -for the child bed, they provided a broken slatted bed base. it was so uncomfortable for my daughter so she ended up sleeping with us. We asked them to fix this for the 2nd night though they added a wooden slot that ran perpendicular to the rest of the bed so it was another sleepless night. -overall quality of breakfast is not great -- orange soupy eggs, chewy bacon, canned mushrooms -They made a big mistake. On the Friday night we arrived, we requested ski passes for 3 days (sat, sun, mon). When my husband and daughter got to the slopes on Monday, they realized the hotel had made it for friday, sat, sunday. Since my son was sick, they decided that rather than try and fix it and the hassle involved, they came back to the hotel and lost that day of skiing. I explained to the hotel but there wasn't even an apology. Pros: -Food was better than the past year (except breakfast) -Complimentary kids ski lessons is a bonus -Swimming pool though they could spend a very small amount of money and replace the old, strewn pool floaties and kick boards

The Huus is unique luxury property with no hotel in vicinity. The hotel is near Railway Stations of Gstad and Sannen on the highway road next to valley. Linen top class clean. Bathroom with new fittings. Third person was given complimentary stay. Temperature not an issue since it was summer/monsoon time. Lobby with bar looks amazing. Buffet breakfast is something highly recommended. It's best we had in other hotels in Switzerland. Complimentary shuttle is great facility. Bus available hourly to both Gstad and Sannenand that too complimentary with guest travel pass. Swimming pool, suana, Gym etc available and world class. No sounds from other rooms. The view of valley from back of hotel is mesmerizing and you need wide angle lens camera to capture in real. Vegetarian options in food/snacks are limited. We ordered veg club sandwich which they amended from chicken club sandwich. They asked vegetable/fruits to be used but it was a disaster. Not their fault but lesson is that you go for what is available like a burger with fries and and avoid experimentation. The stay was unique experience and unforgettable.

We found this property by accident, what an amazing discovery! Amazing service, modern facility, activity for entire family, amazing food but most of all- breathtaking views from the hotel! We would come back to Gstaad just to stay at this hotel!

I have several “pros”, but a couple important “cons” for this very cool and beautifully designed hotel. I recently stayed here with my wife and 9 year old son. We LOVED the design of the hotel and immediately felt transported to the mountain getaway we desired for our visit to Gstaad. The food in the lobby area was excellent and the staff was very friendly. We also greatly enjoyed the included breakfast buffet. I told the omelette maker that he made one of the best ones I’ve ever had! The room we got was comfortable and carefully designed and it had an awesome mountain view and sat above the pool area. We also loved having the accessibility to the game room and gym, both of which we used in our time there. The only single issue we had with the room was that there was no air-conditioning, and because clearly the climates are changing, I think the hotel should probably think about making adjustments for this in the hotter summer months. It got quite warm at night, which did affect our sleeping. The single most important issue we had with the hotel was their prioritizing smokers over non-smokers. I understand that Europeans still do lean toward smoking in public places, but something we pointed out to the management, (who did listen) was that because of the smoking on the balcony and mostly all outdoor areas, we actually were not able to enjoy the magnificent views and fresh mountain air when we dined in the restaurants, upstairs and downstairs. And because they keep the front and back doors open in the main area, it was very hard to avoid the smoke. The irony of this is that the few people who do smoke actually dominate the nicest areas of the hotel, and the majority of us who do not (including children) either have to tolerate the unhealthy smoke or simply find somewhere else to go. This actually doesn’t seem very fair when you think about it this way. I did voice this to one of the managers, and he was receptive and understanding of my point of view, which I appreciated. Otherwise, the indoor pool was great, and the grounds of the hotel were beautiful in that mountain setting. And everything was very well kept. And before we left, one of the managers gave us a tour of the underground “cave“ bar, which was totally awesome and unique. I’m hoping that this hotels and others like it will understand what I’m bringing up here and make adjustments to accommodate a wider audience, and particularly people who are more health conscious in today’s world.
