Hotel Stay Review (Switzerland – 4 nights) We stayed here for 4 nights as part of a packed 19-day trip through Europe. After long days of sightseeing we were looking forward to coming back, having a couple of cocktails, eating, and relaxing in the room. Unfortunately a few issues made that harder than it should have been. Restaurant The restaurant is pleasant and the food and service were good when we ate there. I have a nut allergy, so the already limited menu becomes even more restricted. The first evening we shared one allergy-safe dish and that was fine. When we returned another night and ordered the exact same dish again, and were told we each order a full meal because of a table policy, that was never explained the first night, That it is policy every guest must order at least one dish. We felt forced to buy food we didn’t need just to sit at a table. The manager later confirmed this is intentional policy and suggested the bar for small snacks/tapas if guests only want to share. Fair enough as a business rule, but it felt inflexible for hotel guests with dietary restrictions who simply wanted a quiet dinner after a long day. In-room issues The television did not work for three days. We reported it; to no avail, the technician was unavailable. After long days out, being unable to unwind with something on TV was frustrating. The shower is poorly designed. The glass enclosure is too small to keep the water in the tub, so the bathroom floor floods every time. We had to use towels to mop it up repeatedly. There is also no ventilation, so the bathroom stays damp and steamy. Overall the location worked for our itinerary and the staff we dealt with were generally polite, but the combination of the restaurant policy for allergy guests, the broken TV for a significant portion of a short stay, and the constantly flooding shower left us disappointed. These are basic comforts that matter when you’re traveling hard and just want to relax in the evenings.

We stayed here for 4 nights on a recent trip through Switzerland. Convenience for travel and hiking was of primary importance and Braunbar's location is great. It's a very short and relatively flat walk to the train, and it's right across the street from the Mannlichen lift. Braunbar's porter will take your bags to the train if you like, but we simply rolled ours the brief walk to and from the hotel. We stayed in a "Privelege" room which had the extra sitting area, and very much enjoyed to additional room to sit and relax after hiking. As opposed to many Swiss hotels with the half wall of glass in the shower, our room had a full large tub with a shower curtain. We much prefer being fully enclosed while showering as we've not mastered the art of not getting water all over the bathrooms with those crazy half walls. Our room had a balcony overlooking the main street, which was nice. The Jungfrau Marathon happened to be while we were visiting and it was fun to sit on the balcony and watch the runners come by. We thought it may have been noisy at night, but it wasn't. Our balcony was not on the side of the hotel directly above the bar, which has some outdoor seating, so maybe that helped also. The breakfast buffet was good and had the usual mix of hot and cold dishes. The automatic coffee machines do not serve decaf and getting decaf was a bit of a process. As opposed to other places which had instant packets, one of the servers needed to switch out the beans on the top of the automatic machines and make cups of decaf. As things got busy in the mornings and servers were prepping room service, quick access to more decaf was sometimes difficult. The hotel has a very large indoor pool (you could swim laps if you wanted to) and offers spa services. We took a swim but didn't partake of the spa. Wengen has a nice variety of restaurants and provides easy access to a variety of good hiking spots. The Braunbar was a nice convenient base from which to explore.
