The Hey Hotel

Despite no AC we were able to have a comfortable stay. We had a quiet room on the 4th floor and a large standing fan. Due to the heat this summer, we chose to stay outside by the park or lake where it was cool then go to our room around 10pm. This is what locals do. So please don’t think it’s impossible to have an enjoyable stay without AC. Our room was large and clean and the breakfast was first class. The hotel is about 10 minutes from train station so it was an easy walk. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Close to many good restaurants as well. I would definitely stay here again.

Terrible experience marked by rude service and unbearable room temperatures. The staff was unprofessional, yelled, and refused to assist us. The rooms are outdated, and ours felt like an oven because the roof window had no blinds. With a broken window and a tiny, ineffective fan, the heat was unmanageable.

Hotel is well located in a busy and friendly area (just a few mins walk to Interlaken West train station), staff at the front desk were extremely friendly, included breakfast was an added bonus, and room size, condition and cleanliness were acceptable but hotel could do with a refurb including the rooms and hallways. We stayed at the “Guesthouse” which is a large building opposite the main Hey Hotel building and a bit cheaper but unlike the main hotel, rooms have no air conditioning so my overall recommendation would be to stay at the main Hey Hotel during summer months and avoid the Guesthouse in July/August as it truely impacts the overall experience. We had two very large windows that opened and a pedestal fan but the inside temp remained at an unbearable 27 degrees overnight (even with the windows fully opened) which is a struggle after spending all day in the heat. We also had to walk around at night in the dark otherwise the lights would have attracted insects into the room with the windows wide open. Aircon is not common in Switzerland and they were having a heatwave but heatwaves now occur every summer and it’s unacceptable to not provide this basic comfort just as it would be unacceptable to not provide heating here during the winter. Long term it will only be the hotels who offer aircon that guests stay at in summer. While it may only be a few weeks a year that require aircon in Switzerland, if your staying during this time you must be able to return to a cool room to properly rest and recharge otherwise your entire holiday is impacted. I really hope this review is shared with upper management and they consider installing aircon. Also credit to the front desk team who tried to change rooms for us but the main hotel was fully booked out.

Lovely hotel a short easy walk from Interlarken West train station, slightly further from Ost. Nice quite room with a small balcony. Very average air conditioner, room also has a fan if required. Comfortable bed. Shower in bath, water temperature was difficult to control. No in room fridge unfortunately. Breakfast was excellent. Reception staff were very helpful. Happy to recommend.
