Hotel Regina

Hotel Regina is well located, near the train station and easy walking distance to the small village. The walk from the train station is short but uphill - if that could be a challenge, arrange well in advance for the hotel to send someone to pick you up. I asked too late and didn't hear back before arriving. We were assigned room 601, on the highest story of the hotel. The weather at this time was quite warm. The lift only operates to the 5th floor, so we walked the stairs to the 6th floor. Stairs were not very safe - uneven, narrow, etc. If walking up such stairs wouldn't work for you, be sure to mention before booking. The room itself was clean but in need of some love - true for the entire hotel, in my opinion. The carpets desperately need to be replaced. Our room was 2-level, A-frame, bedroom upstairs. Sounds more charming than it is - unable to stand upright beside the bed (and I'm not tall), had to navigate stairs to go to bathroom at night, inadequate nighttime lighting on the stairs. Room was quite warm, even with small fans supplied by the hotel (one for lower level, one upstairs). At night, we put both fans upstairs. The room has large windows which allows for some airflow, which helps at night. It didn't really cool until we had rain on our 2nd night. It is charming to hear the cowbells from the cows in a nearby field. I mentioned that the hotel is in need of some love, which definitely applies to room 601. The covering on the daybed downstairs needs to be replaced, the toilet seat is chipped and needs to be replaced and the tub is treacherous - narrow, deep and with no bars, etc., to assist with getting in or out. There was some mold on the shower tiles. On the plus side, the food was excellent. Breakfasts were generous and very tasty. We also ate 1 evening meal there, which was good, altho service was a bit slow. The staff is lovely - friendly and accommodating. That's the best aspect of this property - the staff. The front desk representative, Gabriel, helped our daughter arrange a lovely surprise for my husband and I, which really made our stay in Wengen very special.

I don't generally write reviews of hotels but our experience of the Regina was excellent. The hotel decor has clearly seen better days BUT the service, right from the welcome at reception to the dinner waiting service and the quality of the food (compliments to the chef for an exceptionally prepared and sizeable fillet steak) was a cut above most if not all other places we have and stayed and dined at. Large hotels can feel impersonal but this did not. Thank you!

The spectacular views from our corner room made the stay worth it. This grand dame is tired, though, and desperately needs a facelift (to be kind). And, there was something definitely strange going on with the restaurant and bar. Service was very spotty. It was as if most of the kitchen staff and others had abruptly left and they were scrambling to cover. The breakfast, though complimentary, was terrible. Watery eggs, nothing getting refilled. We only went once, so maybe it was an off day or time, but somehow I doubt it. Dinner in the restaurant one night was fine, but nothing special. The Italian piano player (seriously talented guy, and sweet), singing English songs to which he faked the words in some language of his own invention, was actually one of the highlights. In the rooms, the walls, carpet and furniture were worn out and stained but clean. The shower curtain didn’t fit the tub. No refrigerator or mini-bar. Don’t leave the unscreened windows open at night unless you want to be eaten alive. Did I mention the gorgeous views? We won’t be back unless there is a complete remodel and revamp of the kitchen. The hotel has great bones, very classic, and could be (and at one time probably was) a first class destination hotel, but sadly, not anymore.

After an unexpected hotel change, we booked Hotel Regina Wengen at the last minute, and it ended up being one of the best decisions we made during our entire Switzerland trip. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. After a stressful day, they made us feel immediately at home. The hotel itself is charming, elegant, and full of old-world Swiss character, with breathtaking views of the mountains that are even more stunning in person than in the photos. Our room was comfortable, quiet, and spacious, with a private bathroom & balcony with gorgeous views and everything we needed for a relaxing stay. After finally getting a good night’s sleep, we woke up refreshed and ready to explore the beautiful Jungfrau region. The location is fantastic, close to the train station, restaurants, and hiking trails while still feeling peaceful and serene. We especially loved sitting on the terrace and taking in the incredible views of the valley and surrounding peaks. What could have been a disappointing experience in the Alps turned into one of our favorite travel memories thanks to Hotel Regina Wengen. The hospitality, comfort, views, and overall atmosphere were exceptional. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Wengen.

What a lovely hotel. Our main purpose was to see Gringelward and decided to stay here instead which we don’t regret. There are far less people and Wengen is more of a Swiss village were as Gringelward is more a tourist ski destination. It takes 2 trains and about 50 minutes to get from one to the other but worth it. First I’ll start with the only issue we had. Upon arriving in Wengen we phoned the hotel for a pick up from the train station which they offer as they are located up a very steep hill. They said a driver would be there in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later he still hadn’t showed so we had to walk with our suitcases to the hotel . Even though 5e distant far the walk is up a very steep hill which nearly killed us. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was good, however at check-in they tell you breakfast is from 7am however when we showed up then we were told that time was for the tour groups and not all,the menu items were bought out until 7.30am, so wait until then. The room was excellent, very large with a great view. I lay on the huge day bed for about one minute and began sneezing and getting a runny nose. This lasted for 4 hours which I’m putting down to dust as I don’t have allergies. It you do I’d avoid the day bed as it’s probably just dust. The room was warm and the bed very comfortable. Shower water pressure was excellent and the windows opened up fully if you wanted fresh air. As the town is small everything is easy walking distance from the hotel. We would definitely stay there again.
