Part of ski group we stayed at the very centrally-located Hotel Victoria-Lauberhorn in Wengen, located just steps from the train station and Mannlichen gondola offering super easy travel and access to the Jungfrau ski area. Overall the staff and amenities were excellent, the food was plentiful, varied and delicious. (The person at reception was unable to connect us with an outside operator when we needed to make a phone call back to Canada.) As expected the rooms were small. The foam bed we had was comfortable, we had just enough closet and storage space; the shower only stall would be tight for a large person. Our room had just two AC outlets - one under the TV, the other in the bathroom. As we were there for skiing, some provision could be made to hang up ski pants and jackets, and a place to dry one's mitts or gloves overnight. The ski boot locker room(s) in the basement did however have boot dryers; the rooms a bit tight. As to the skiing, this Jungfrau region offers a good mix of beginner to expert, mostly intermediate, terrain. Coverage in March was excellent though the off-piste areas while snow covered, had a layer of crust that only maybe softened up by days' end. Our only complaint was signage on the slopes themselves as it was quite minimal. You'll need a trail map in hand and be proficient at trail map interpretation to find your way around in this very expansive area.

It was lovely to return to Wengen- after visiting in 1991 (stayed @ The Regina) and in 1999 (stayed @ The Brunner). The Victoria-Lauberhorn is a charming hotel. It's been there for many years and has modernised to a tasteful degree. Staff members are all friendly: reception, dining room, spa and cleaning staff. Food very good. The Swiss don't serve table water gratis, just a fact, not a peculiarity of this hotel. Our room was of good size and had all that was required. (Perhaps a few more wall sockets/charging points, and glad we brought our own Swiss adapters!) We'd access to the balcony which was really the full length of the building (overlooking the Solarium.) Being near to the train station was no problem and was lovely to hear the occasional bells from the traditional church in front of The Palace Hotel. Ski room could be pretty full, no lockers -I suggest bicycles ought to be stored elsewhere to avoid clutter. Great access from ski room to ski hire shops and Mannlichen cable car. 100 people at a time and in Feb only had to queue once! Pool pleasantly warm and various fountains/jets made it fun and relaxing. Sauna/steam-room, warm/cold plunge pools and showers textile-free and, respecting Swiss tradition, even these reserved Scots managed to get out their comfort zone (and bathing costumes!) The Aufgass aromatherapy session at 5pm each day was an absolute treat. A most pleasant week -despite my fractured humerus at Kleine Scheidegg. If age and bones allow, we'll be back!

Excellent location near station and the cable car, clean and comfortable rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent but the fish courses at evening dinner were disappointing and not hot. The one night we had a buffet dinner was very popular, perhaps this could be provided more often? One of our party needed a refrigerator to keep medication bit the rooms don't have them, the management were reluctant to provide one but our Crystal rep was fantastic and pushed for this, making himself unpopular with the hotel management but he got this sorted (shame it took this effort to get a result). Absolute highlight was Gustav, one of the waiters who played piano one evening. It would have been nice if he could play every evening and I'm sure the bar turnover would benefit!
