Victoria Lauberhorn, a Faern Collection Hotel

This is a great hotel that has many things going for it. It is very close to the train station so you could easily catch an 8:12 train to Lauterbrunnen after having breakfast. Included breakfast was amazing - I ate freshly baked bread with butter as a desert! The spa that is also included was the best that we've had in a hotel so far. We particularly enjoyed hot sauna, cold plunge and the pool with various massaging jets. This was very helpful as a recovery after lots of hiking every day. The staff was great and very helpful too, particularly Bjorn at the reception. We had room overlooking Jungfrau and enjoyed spending afternoons on the balcony. The only thing that was baffling to me in a hotel of this caliber and in Switzerland was that there was no hair conditioner. I usually bring it along but thought that here, of all the places, it would be provided. I think it would be a good idea to keep some sample size conditioner bottles at the reception and provide them in cases when they are requested. Overall, it was a great stay and I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

The Victoria Laberhorn was a great choice for our 3 night stay in Wengen. we were welcomed by staff that provided 5 star service our entire visit. Martin & Bjorn always stopped what they were doing to give us full attention. The view from the room was spectacular. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel location was perfect...so close to train yet train station was so quiet. We hope to return

Location is fantastic as literally a minute walk from the train station. Great location for visiting the jungfrau region. Was slightly disappointed with the hotel as the price we paid suggested a 5 star hotel which this is not. Breakfast is included which is okay. It’s a struggle to find a clean table as appears to be 1 or 2 staff so tables are not cleared at all. Really could do with an extra member just to clear them and make room for further diners. Read that someone mentioned lack of electrical points in rooms and this is true. Have to plan your charging of devices as very limited. Ate once for evening meal and again I appreciate they were busy but trying to get served for a second drink was awful. Had to go and try and find the waiter twice for service to our table which I don’t think was appreciated. Overall I would recommend but need to lower your expectations

⭐⭐⭐ We stayed at Hotel Victoria for a special two-night, three-day weekend to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. I’d deliberately chosen to spend more on our hotel than I normally would because this was a milestone birthday and I wanted the whole weekend to feel that little bit special. There were definitely things we loved. The view from our balcony was breathtaking, and the location was excellent. Being so close to Wengen station was particularly appreciated when returning tired after very busy days exploring. Our room was pleasant and had some nice touches, including robes, slippers and water. We’d already paid for a balcony room and the view certainly didn’t disappoint, but the whole stay itself didn’t quite have the wow factor I’d hoped for considering what we’d paid and the occasion. The pool and spa area was one of the highlights. The pool was lovely and warm, sitting on the bench style railings with the jacuzzi bubbles was really relaxing, and the lazy river was surprisingly powerful — at one point it literally picked my feet up off the floor and carried me around twice! 😂 We also investigated the sauna, steam room and different showers, including the very Swiss experience of tipping a bucket of freezing cold water over your head. We’d seen the signs regarding nudity but luckily managed our entire investigation without any unexpected encounters! 😂 On our final morning we tried the outdoor hot tub, which was lovely. Complimentary teas in the spa area were a nice touch, although a coffee option would have been appreciated too — I wished I’d taken one of the coffee sachets down from our room. I had actually tried to arrange private use of the hot tub before our stay as something special for the birthday with bottle of fizz. Through Booking.com I was initially told by the hotel that this would be no problem and to contact the wellness centre. I then contacted them and was directed to book online, but the online booking wasn’t working. Despite several messages directly with the hotel back and forwards, it was never actually arranged for us. That was frustrating when I’d made the effort beforehand specifically because this was a special trip. The biggest disappointment for me, however, was the complete lack of acknowledgement of my husband’s 40th birthday. I’d mentioned the birthday in several communications before our arrival and had been trying to arrange the private hot tub as part of the celebration. We even had 40th-birthday balloons in our room during the stay, so it certainly wasn’t a secret that we were celebrating! Perhaps the hotel was particularly busy, but nobody ever mentioned it — not even a simple “Happy Birthday” or “I see you’re celebrating”. We weren’t looking for complimentary meals, a free room upgrade or expensive gifts. We’d already paid for our balcony room and half board because we wanted to make the weekend special ourselves. Even a small acknowledgement, a handwritten note or perhaps a drinks voucher for the bar would have been a lovely gesture. It wasn’t about getting some grand gesture; it was about feeling that the occasion had actually been noticed. The service generally felt a little more impersonal than I’d expected for this level of hotel. For example, we didn’t receive any follow-up after checking in to ask whether everything was okay with our room or whether we needed anything. That’s a small thing on its own, but alongside everything else it contributed to the overall feeling. Unfortunately, the half board was also a let-down. There were individual things we enjoyed. The soup was lovely, and the lemon-shaped dessert was beautifully presented and genuinely delicious — although sufficiently lemony to produce a few involuntary lemon faces! 😂🍋 The main course, however, was disappointing. We had ribs with very little meat and what was described on the menu as “potatoes”, but what arrived was literally half of one roasted potato. Despite having eaten four courses, we both finished dinner still hungry. I appreciate that the intention may be a more refined style of dining, but there simply wasn’t enough substantial food for us. On our second evening we knew we’d miss the normal half-board dinner because we were attending a football match in Bern. We had already paid for half board, so we weren’t looking for a complimentary meal, and we certainly weren’t expecting the hotel to recreate the normal four-course dinner when we returned. We had simply hoped our dinner could be replaced with something basic, warm and filling. Instead, we were left a cold platter of sliced meat and cheese with bread. It was better than having nothing waiting for us, but after a long day and returning late and hungry, it wasn’t particularly satisfying. Something as simple as an individual plate of pasta or another basic hot meal and plated a slice of cake would have been much more welcome. Given that the hotel also knew this was a 40th-birthday weekend, I honestly believed them when they said they would sort this and would have been a lovely touch. A small gesture that would have made the stay feel special and been remembered. Breakfast on our final morning was better. There were scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon, croissants and pastries, although sadly no sausages in sight! There was also a slightly strange-looking mushroom dish which I decided to put into a bowl and dip bread into. Despite its appearance, it was actually really nice. There was fresh fruit including grapes and orange slices. Melon was also replenished, but unfortunately seemed to disappear almost instantly each time as people helped themselves to large amounts, so we never managed to get any. Perhaps individual portions or simply putting more out would give everyone a better chance of getting some. The cappuccinos and fresh orange juice were appreciated, although I was surprised there wasn’t an apple or pineapple juice option. I also noticed a menu on another table which included the word “pancakes”, but nobody had offered us a menu or asked whether we’d like anything additional. I’m therefore still not entirely sure what was actually available to order alongside the buffet. If there are cooked-to-order options, it would be helpful if these were clearly offered or explained to guests. We did manage to get a table beside one of the areas of the dining room with a lovely view towards the mountains, which made breakfast much more enjoyable. For one of our early starts, the hotel also prepared breakfast boxes, which we appreciated. Ours contained a banana, nectarine, small pastry, carton of orange juice and a generously filled sandwich with meat and cheese slices, soft cheese and salad. I was particularly grateful that the sandwich wasn’t dry, although cutting it in half would have made it considerably easier to eat on the move! 😂 Overall, though, the breakfast box worked well for an early departure. So overall, Hotel Victoria has a lot going for it. The location is extremely convenient, our balcony view was genuinely breathtaking, and we had some lovely moments enjoying the warm pool, spa and outdoor hot tub. There were also practical touches, such as preparing breakfast boxes for our early start, which we appreciated. But for a hotel I’d specifically chosen and paid extra for because we were celebrating my husband’s 40th, I came away feeling disappointed that it didn’t quite deliver the special two-night, three-day experience we’d hoped for. It wasn’t one huge problem. It was the accumulation of smaller things: the birthday never being acknowledged despite my communications beforehand, the private hot-tub booking never being resolved, service sometimes feeling impersonal, and the half-board experience not living up to expectations. The hotel has a beautiful setting and so much potential. We still came away with some lovely memories, but for us the attention to detail and personal touches didn’t quite match the price or the special occasion.

Enjoyed our stay at this well situated hotel with jaw dropping views of the Jungfrau from our terrace. Friendly staff responsive to all needs. Great location across street from the train station. Nice breakfast buffet, a bit stressed due to large groups. Would stay there again in a second.
