What a wonderful hotel, location and people! The Victoria Lauberhorn sits at the base of Wengen, a very convenient short walk from the station. The grounds are nice, welcoming and cosy, with relaxing spots to sit and admire the majestic mountain range. The reception area is spacious and bright, with easy access to both the breakfast room, spa, bar and restaurant, as well as a nice quiet area where the piano sits, allowing you to enjoy a drink whilst listening to some live music. A mention to Gustav, a very talented pianist who plays on specific evenings and creates a beautiful environment for guests to enjoy. The room (panoramic jungfrau view) is basic and a little tight when adding a third bed, but was clean and tidy. The balcony with Jungfrau views was just magical. Immensely gorgeous panoramic views of the sun-drenched white peaks, with the cute train strolling along in the background, which did not cause any disturbance for us at all. The spa and pool were very enjoyable especially after an active day, which include various water features, and the rooftop jacuzzi was a lovely bonus, especially in the sun. Both had warm water temperatures, and the views from the jacuzzi are gorgeous. Bonus for anyone visiting anytime soon, the spa is currently undergoing a full renovation which should offer guests an even more enjoyable experience. As I'm a fan of constructive feedback also, a few points which could be improved. The hotel itself sits in a lovely traditional building with lots of character, but due to this could do with some freshening up on the inside. I would say it's understandable that it may be difficult to do in a hotel that's open all year round (one of the only in Wengen), especially in a car-free town at such altitude, but some areas could be updated. Don't let that put you off though, it's perfectly enjoyable as is. A second point would be the restaurant. The pasta menu was OK but we felt the al la carte dishes could be improved. I guess this could be subjective. Wengen itself is a lovely charming town in a great location with excellent access. A couple of tips, walk to the tip of the church 3 minutes away from the hotel for incredible views into the lauterbrunnen valley, and a 25 minute walk will get you to the Staubbachbankli, a peaceful spot with majestic views of the mountains either side of the valley below and the Staubbach Waterfall. But without doubt the star of this hotel is it's people. A huge thank you to Faro, Martin and all of the team at reception, Robert and the Austrian fella (so sorry forgot the name) and the girls too. You guys are just fantastic and went above and beyond to help and ensure everything was just beautiful. Your smiles are infectious and it was a pleasure meeting you all. Thank you and hopefully we get to see those Ibex together next time! 😉 Love Andreas and family.
This used to be my go to hotel, but it’s gone dramatically downhill. The rooms are spartan and tired with poor amenities, the service is unreliable, and the food - let’s just say we ended up going to the vending machine for dinner one night.
Amazing installations friendly staff and gorgeous location. 5*
Had a great experience staying in this hotel. We were a big group travelling from the USA, and it was a challenge to communicate with the administration to finalize the rooms. I would have given 5 stars otherwise. The service was excellent. The location unbeatable (right next to the train station). Special shout-out to Lena, who took care of our group during the dinner and breakfast.
The views from our room were magnificent and more magical than we expected. May in the Switzerland Jungfrau. The park entrance to excellent hotel is about 20 meters from the train station, and me somewhat mobility limited, appreciated this. This fact entered in our choice of the Wengen Victoria Lauberhorn.Greeted immediately with a smile and helpful advice by Martin, who suggested we stow our luggage and immediately catch the next train up to Kleine Sheidig. We did and enjoyed a draft beer in the afternoon sun. We knew the daily weather would guide our decisions. At the beginning of our 2nd day we decided to extend our stay from 4 nights to 5 nights, and Martin was able to accommodate our request. Our wood choice afforded 2 different views of Bernese Oberland mountains. The hotel has a wonderful staff, helpful and welcoming to all of the guests. We enjoyed the Pasta and More restaurant with a varied menu of dishes, and each prepared exceptionally well. We sampled everything. The morning breakfast, available with the cost of our room, was served in a large area with Mountain View’s. The food selection was was very varied and well prepared, and the bread selection amazing. This considering they served almost all of the hotel guest between 7 and 10 each morning. I made sure to thank one of the chef’s for their work. Martin left on his vacation, and Faro took over, and helped us plan our daily adventures every morning. A trip to Grindewald one day, the Schilthorn-Piz Gloria the next, and finally Jungfraujoch, the Aletsch Glacier and the Ice Palace. We learning to adjust to Swiss May weather on a daily basis. Trust the staff of the Wengen Victoria Lauberhorn to care for you. Make the Victoria Lauberhorn your base of operations, and buy a Swiss Travel Pass to allow unlimited access to the wonderful train system. Learn to use the the Swiss SBB application and jump from location to location with the freedom to choose. The only negative was the scheduled closure of the hotel spa area and swimming pool. We knew this would happen and were not disappointed. Next time.
