JAZ Elite Aurora Beach

A perfect honeymoon stay. Every detail of our holiday was exceptional. From the moment we arrived the service was warm, professional and attentive, our room was ready upon arrival to immediately check in which was great after long travels. The hotel facilities are immaculate and all regularly cleaned and monitored by the staff. The hotel is very aesthetically pleasing, we loved all of the decor in all of the bars and restaurants. Felt very authentic to Zanzibar whilst having a luxury feel. The food was fabulous, lots of variety in the buffet and the a la carte restaurants were to a very high quality. The sushi restaurant was our favourite and some of the best sushi we have tasted. As for the drinks, they have a really wide range of wines, cocktails and spirits which are all branded and all included for the all inclusive. Drinks, including cocktails are made fresh for you and staff make sure your glass is never left empty! The sunsets every night at the cocktail bar on the pier were stunning, there was also a cocktail night every Tuesday on the pier with a DJ and snacks, we loved this. The beach was beautiful, soft white sand and the clearest water. The hotels beach sits in a much quieter location compared to others we visited which we really loved, it felt private without being too out of the way. Access directly from the hotel and manned by security which made us feel even safer. The hotels atmosphere was lovely, very calm but still enough going on if you wanted to join in with activities daily. Evening entertainment was varied and great each night, the hotel had a lovely romantic feel which is what we’d hoped for our honeymoon. The stay was definitely made by how amazing every single member of staff was, we were made to feel so special and looked after by everyone from the bar, kitchen, restaurant, spa, reception and security, the service really set this hotel apart from other 5* resorts we had stayed at, people genuinely couldn’t do enough for you. The managers were very present around the resort and checked in with us regularly to ensure everything was going well throughout our stay. It’s impossible to mention every single person that made our honeymoon memorable but some special considerations to: Mayo and Leila from the entertainment team who made us feel so welcome and gave great recommendations. As well as the service being exceptional from Abdallah, Rahim, Said, Juma, Issa and Iddy, we loved chatting to you every day! Will genuinely miss waking up in this place every day, we hope to visit again in the future!

Amazing! From the minute we arrived at the hotel we were greeted immediately by the Room Manager Yousuf (he is the most incredible host I have ever met), we were given our bands and a welcome drink and refreshing damp towel to cool down with, he then went on to give us a full tour of the complex and explain the restaurants, pool and amenities (all whilst being drive round on a buggy) The driver carried our bags into our room, this was the same on our return journey two weeks later – he was just wonderful and couldn’t do enough for us, always polite and happy and asking how we were throughout the holiday when we saw him. In fact, every single member of the management team stopped to ask how we were, if we were happy, what trips we had done and how our day was- this happened every single day. During our stay we dined at the Fish restaurant, Grill, Breeze (Med) and Sushi restaurant. We also paid an additional fee to dine in the Teppanyaki restaurant – this was a private dining experience with just two couples, the chef Dipak was fun, chatty and full of stories and experience, he was amazing, so friendly. We had such an amazing time-the staff also kept the cocktails flowing it was a special experience, one we will never forget. Thanks Dipak! We also spoke to the hotel reception and they advised how we could book a ride on some horses we had seen along the beach, there is a stables called Royal Stable Zanzibar behind the hotel, we were taken round by one of the staff (although you can get there yourself with access from behind the scuba centre) it was nice of him all the same. We planned our ride when the tide was in, so the horse walked through the sea and you navigated them on your own – this was my first ride and was amazing, the horse King Oscar was 10-year-old and so lovely and calm – he waded through the water with ease – an experience I will never forget. Once again Ben and his team there were incredible, they take your phone and camera and take all the photos, and they are unreal! We had booked a 1-day safari (you need to experience this – it will be another post on trip advisor but – do it) the hotel packed us breakfast to take and were super lovely. We also booked swim with turtles in Salam Caves – again, this was wonderful (I was nervous but just give yourself time and go in a few times) it was a great experience and our taxi driver stayed with us the whole time waiting. We also booked the Rock Restaurant – again I will do another post on this, you can walk to it along the beach – it takes an hour or take a taxi which the hotel booked us a return taxi for £30 dollars and the driver waits for you. The Rock was amazing! What I will say is if you read any negative reviews you need to ignore them and go yourself- it is an experience and can not be judged by someone else. The entertainment team are lovely, we enjoyed managers cocktails on the jetty twice to watch sunset and have nibbles – just so lovely. We’re not the get up and dance or get involved in all the activities, but if it is your thing there is plenty to do in the daytime, Gym groups, Yoga on the Jetty etc The Restaurant and Bar staff are wonderful, Essa on the cocktail bar was amazing – give him a medal, he was great to chat to, knew our seat and cocktail choice every night without even asking, he was wonderful. shout out to Godfry and Stephan too at the infinity pool who let us adapt our salad to add chicken - just shows how attentive they are to making it special Our room maid was wonderful, she was always so happy and kind and made us feel lovely, she left little messages on our bed – during our stay we had a Happy Birthday, welcome and thank you – we had left her a little note and some dollars and came back to a full decorated bed – she was so grateful and so were we. I can’t speak highly enough about Yousuf – he made us feel so welcome, we communicated via WhatsApp any requests – from printing boarding passes, to a taxi or breakfast for safari, he also arranged a birthday cake for my partners birthday and decorations for our room – he is amazing and an asset to the hotel. I wish I could put into words how Yousuf made our stay the most enjoyable and seamless, he was so helpful and friendly and felt like a friend - I couldn't say goodbye without feeling choked up - I am so so grateful for all he did to make our stay the most enjoyable - The staff all left reception and sang as we were getting into our taxi to the airport - that is unforgettable - what a hotel!

We spent two full weeks at Jaz Elite Aurora with our family and friends, and by the end it honestly stopped feeling like a hotel and started feeling like a second home. Leaving is the hardest part of the trip. The resort sits in Michamvi Kae, on one of the most beautiful stretches of coast we've seen anywhere. Truly white, soft sand and water so clear it looks edited. Add the famous Michamvi sunsets and you understand why we barely left the property. The hotel is brand new, beautifully designed and spotless, with spacious, comfortable rooms. The pools deserve a special mention: a proper adults' pool for actual relaxing, and a fantastic kids' area with slides that our four-year-old treated as his personal kingdom. Families and couples both get their own space here, which is not easy to pull off. Jaz did. A hotel is walls and pools; people make it a holiday. These people made ours. Dipak, Chef at the Teppanyaki restaurant. If you do one thing at this resort, book Dipak's Teppanyaki. The food is outstanding, the show he puts on is brilliant, and his genuine smile never leaves his face. He is incredible with kids: patient, funny, engaging, and somehow makes every table feel like the most important one in the restaurant. We came back more than once, and every visit was a highlight. Devesh, one of the managers. Great attention to detail and someone who genuinely cares. When Devesh says he'll help, he really means it, and things simply get done. Whenever Youssef wasn't in sight, Devesh was there, quietly making sure everything ran smoothly for us. Youssef, the true good spirit of this place and, from what we could see, the right hand of the general manager. Always around, always watching, always putting the guests' interests above everything else. There is nothing that can't be sorted with Youssef's help. As a family man himself, he was wonderfully attentive to our kids' needs. He is the kind of person who notices things before you even ask. Mani, Spa manager. Friendly, warm and talkative, and his spa is genuinely amazing. We did the hammam twice and honestly didn't expect this level of professionalism from a spa in Zanzibar. His whole team is excellent. Go, you won't regret it. Last but not least, Wiktoria, one of the best, if not the best, animators we saw. Super friendly, warm and open, and amazing with children. Our son stayed in the kids' club alone for the very first time in his life, and it was because of Wiktoria. Beyond these names, all of the local staff were wonderful, and the Egyptian chefs at the buffet were friendly and always happy to accommodate special wishes. We don't remember every name, but we remember every smile. A small confession: we're fairly sure that for two weeks, half the staff quietly reported not to the general manager but to our four-year-old, an energetic, talkative little boss who inspected the buffet, the pool and the beach daily and paid his team in high-fives. We appreciated every one of them playing along. A word on the evening entertainment. Yes, you can always question how authentic such shows are in a resort, but here they genuinely surprised us. One night a single singer performed with more than one voice, switching between male and female tones in a way that had the whole audience doing double takes. Other nights brought acrobatics and local dancers. All of it high quality, all of it entertaining, and a lovely way to end each day. The only thing not quite perfect yet: waiting times for some orders. Coffee, drinks and lunch at the pool could be slow at times. We put this down to the hotel being newly opened, with a team still getting to know each other. To their credit, every delay was immediately addressed by the managers, which tells you everything about the attitude here. Give them a few months and this will be flawless. A stunning new resort, a dream beach, and a team with genuinely big hearts. We came as guests and left as friends. We'll be back, and our little boss has already approved the return trip. Sadly I must write a mixed review about this hotel and Tui in general. We've been using Tui for many years and chose this hotel as it was new. Staff were very polite, friendly, attentive etc. Room was clean, tidy, and well appointed. All the pools lack a bit of imagination to be honest. Gym is modern and well appointed, which is to be expected. Don't be fooled by the official beach photo's however; which are AI images obviously. When the tide is out there is no sand, just muddy silt. Unfortunately for us this is where the positives end. Shortly into the holiday we both succumbed to diarrhea, which continued in various strains for the duration of the holiday. Given that we only ate and drank in the hotel, we could not have contracted this from anywhere else. Suggestions are this could have been either from meat or un-pastuerised milk. There were times when fly's were seen sitting on food in the main restaurant and whilst this is sometimes difficult to control; this shouldn't be happening in a brand new hotel) . Upon returning home my wife was diagnosed with Salmonella poisoning and I subsequently spent a number of days in hospital, as my condition worsened quite severely, finally being diagnosed with severe gastroenteritis. Despite protracted correspondence with Tui including the submission of full medical evidence they have dismissed any responsibility, out of hand. I would therefore welcome hearing from any others who have experienced the same or similar illnesses.
