Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort Spa & Casino

The grounds are large and the landscaping is nice and maintained. We loved all the different water features. At night, the lighting makes it very romantic. There is a huge main pool along with several smaller pools and a couple water parks for the kids. It never seemed overcrowded and we didn't have any issues finding a spot. We stayed in a Unique room and all the perks that come with Unique were worth it. The Unique buffet, bar, and beach areas were awesome. I really enjoyed the custom fresh tropical smoothies you could make at the Unique buffet breakfast each morning. We had a wonderful concierge, Jose Antonio who helped us throughout our trip. He booked all of our dinner reservations which saved us a lot of time and answered any questions that we had. He checked in with us each morning, was punctual, and made sure our requests were taken care of. I read a few reviews mentioning a moldy/musty smell or the A/C was not cool enough in the room, but we did not experience this. If anything the room was too cold for us. The thermostat kept changing back to 72 F and raising the temperature didn't seem to make a difference. We ended up putting the fan speed on low and temporarily turning the A/C off. Some of the other areas like the shops, theater, and large indoor areas were very warm and needed better cooling. The food quality/taste was hit and miss. There were some standout items (lobster, pizza, smoothies), but there were a lot of ok or below average items. The restaurant menu item descriptions should be more detailed to include all of the ingredients so that personal preferences/adjustments can be made. The room service options are very minimal. All of the bars have the same drink menu and were pretty consistent. There are some "secret menu" cocktails like Blue Hawaiian, Dominican Flag, and Sex on the Beach that I wish were included in the published Cocktail Menu. All the staff we encountered were very nice, helpful, and try to remember your name/nickname. Shout out to the photographer and entertainment team :) The Lopesan phone application is functional, but needs quite a bit of work to make it a one stop shop for calendar, reservations, events, etc. There really needs to be a calendar which shows your stay, dinner reservations, other reservations, events, etc so that you can plan out the day with selected items. There were times where the phone application wouldn't show any upcoming events. When you select something to see more details (restaurant, bar, venue, event, etc), there should be in depth information such as style of food, activities available inside(darts, pool, ping pong), a description of the event, etc. Some events needed additional information/explanation and we found a few fun things to do on complete accident.

Nice hotel but the staff are scammers. Left the room at 10am but they charge you 30 dollars if you do not use the desk. Then the card machine didn't work and they risked me missing my flight. Rude unhelpful staff. Not the first time I happened. Some of the bar service at the beach and the bar was also lacking.

Stayed at Lopesan for the first time and had a great experience! We stayed in a Unique room, which came with a lot of extra amenities including a full-service butler. Our butler, Jose Antonio, made sure that we got the most out of our stay by booking us dinner reservations every night, and making sure that we got to take advantage of everything this great resort has to offer! The beach at this resort is incredible, and if you’re not a big beach person, there are also some great pools to enjoy. We had a great time here and will definitely be back again. 10 out of 10!
