Hotel Palazzo Doglio

I visited the hotel with my wife and our two children and stayed from 17th to 21st February. We chose this hotel for our winter holidays, looking forward to a relaxing stay while exploring Sardinia, as we planned to spend most days travelling around the island. Our first night was perfect; however, on the second morning we were woken at 8:30am by very loud construction noise, including hammering and drilling. This woke my entire family and made my younger children cry. I did not raise a complaint immediately as I assumed it would only happen once. Unfortunately, the same situation happened again the following morning at 8:30am with extremely loud noise. My wife and children were very disturbed, especially as we had not been informed in advance that construction works would be taking place. I reported the issue to the Front Office team that morning. They kindly offered to move us to another room; however, as it was our last night and we were leaving early the next day, changing rooms at that stage was not convenient for us. We had intentionally not booked breakfast included because we wanted to rest and sleep longer after spending our days travelling around the island. The repeated noise significantly affected our ability to relax and enjoy our stay. At check-out, the gentleman at the Front Office apologised and mentioned that the bill would be adjusted. However, only a €30 discount was applied. Considering the inconvenience caused and the standard expected from a five-star hotel with such a strong reputation, my family and I left feeling very disappointed with how our concerns were handled. I was also surprised by the lack of empathy. After explaining that my family had their rest disturbed on two of the four days of our stay, there was not even a small gesture such as a card or an amenity to acknowledge the situation. The hotel itself is beautiful; however, the customer service was unfortunately one of the worst experiences I have had in a five-star hotel. I also sent an email expressing my dissatisfaction after the stay but never received a response. I would like to highlight that the housekeeping team was fantastic and very professional throughout our stay.

We had booked this by travel writer recommendation.. what a disappointment. The rooms were mediocre at best and whilst we had one of the quieter rooms I wouldn’t have wanted to stay during the noisy summer months with roads and restaurants all around. Breakfast a bit of a bun fight and not as expected. Dinner mediocre at best . Didn’t find the staff overly helpful other than a few of the evening bar staff who were hit and miss on their service. Had a week in Sardinia using this as a base, Cagliari a complete smelly dump with little to see or do and Sardinia not what we had expected .. completely over hyped, expensive and lacking any charm.. even the famed beach were a let down with high charges for parking and bed hire. After two days we wish we were going home .. all in all a complete waste of money.

We had an outstanding stay at Palazzo Doglio — truly first-class from start to finish. The staff were exceptional and couldn’t do enough for us. Cocktails were excellent, and the restaurants were very good with no issue accommodating changes to the menu. Breakfast was another highlight, with a wide choice of beautifully presented dishes. Reception organised a hire car for us, delivered directly to the hotel at a very reasonable rate. Parking nearby is only €10 per day, and the hotel is an easy walk from the city centre and main sights. This trip was for my daughter’s birthday, and the team went above and beyond by upgrading our room and decorating it with balloons — such a thoughtful touch. We also visited the spa (additional cost) and it was absolutely worth it — we enjoyed one of the best massages we’ve ever had. The gym is excellent and free to use. Overall, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend Palazzo Doglio for anyone visiting Cagliari. The entire staff are a real credit to the hotel.

Leading Hotels of the World ~ excellent service, beautiful balcony looking over the courtyard with fountain. Restaurant is very good. Bar in the courtyard is well positioned. Central location.

On arrival the hotel looks fabulous, elegant and luxurious. The reception staff were friendly, welcoming and informative. Our room wasn’t ready (we did arrive early) so offered us to sit and have a drink and would call us when ready. The ‘classic’ room was lovely, spotlessly clean with good quality furnishings and a huge comfortable bed. My only feedback is that there are not enough power outlets, and the room could maybe do with a table lamp for better ambience. The only option is a small reading light beside the bed, or bright overhead lights which are not very relaxing. The bathroom again was spotless with good quality amenities and plenty of towels. The only other gripe is that some hooks or a towel rail other than the heated towel rail would be better - as you would have to be a giant to put these over when damp to dry out. Also if wearing robes to the spa (which we did ) we had to leave these on the floor to be changed as they were damp (if they had been allowed to air out by being hung up we could have reused - same for our towels). Breakfast was great, lots of choice (a big thumbs up for the Greek yoghurt - one of the best I’ve had) but the service was sometimes painfully slow and you were sometimes overlooked when trying to order coffee. Saying that though the staff were friendly enough. A big shout out to the Concierge, who gave us some great tips on where to visit on our short trip to this lovely city.
