Our 14-night stay at the Catalonia Punta Del Rey was a mixed bag. We opted for the all-inclusive package with a premier upgrade, which promised more, but ultimately delivered less. The hotel's layout, spread across three sites, offered some benefits, but the location's windy conditions and lack of local experiences were notable drawbacks. The sea view from our premium room on the 8th floor was a highlight, though the room itself had some issues, including an uncomfortable mattress and clear signs of patched-up repairs despite being supposedly renovated recently. The balcony was a decent size, though. The location isn't ideal, and we felt disconnected from local experiences, we found it challenging to experience local culture. The buffet food was repetitive, with limited options, although the different theme each night added some, but not much, variety. The à la carte restaurant was only open once a week, and it wasn't included in our package. To make matters worse, we didn't even get to experience it during our stay. Drinks were low quality and limited across the hotel. The indoor bar was small with limited drink options, and the buffet restaurant, while having friendly staff and constant restocking, had limited options and wobbly tables. The main building is in need of modernization, with concerns about its structure potentially being a RAAC building and the slow, unreliable lifts make travelling to and from the rooms take longer than it should. However, the relaxing garden area with a waterfall and family of turtles was a pleasant surprise. Entertainment options were underwhelming and sparse, and excursions were pricey due to third-party costs. The external pool area was small and busy, although it offered some snacks and basic drinks. It also provided a quieter place to relax as this was adults only section. The Solarium, however, was a tranquil oasis with an excellent sea view and fantastic hot tubs that were clean and well-maintained. Unfortunately, the lack of a proper bar, snacks, and functional amenities like a water fountain and drinks machine for several days detracted from our experience, making us feel like we were losing out on all-inclusive privileges. On the eco-consciousness front, the hotel had made some efforts with LED lighting, but the massive use of paper cups with plastic content being thrown into general waste without recycling options was concerning. The staff were generally friendly, though one waiter was argumentative with guests on a few occasions. Chambermaids were diligent in making beds and tidying rooms daily, making our stay more pleasant. Rating: 2.5/5 stars Recommendation: Potential guests should weigh the hotel's strengths and weaknesses before booking. While the Solarium and garden area are highlights, the hotel's overall condition and inconsistencies might not provide the best value for money. Consider alternative options that might offer a more modern, eco-friendly experience.
