Independent Travel Agent Review: Pickalbatros Sungo Club Marrakech (4‑night stay, August 2026) After spending four nights at Pickalbatros Sungo Club Marrakech, I feel confident providing a balanced, experience‑based review that reflects both what I personally observed and what travellers should realistically expect from a Moroccan 5‑star resort. 🌟 Positives The accommodation is exceptionally clean and very well maintained. Housekeeping and grounds teams work continuously, and it shows: the grounds are immaculate, loungers are reset daily, windows are cleaned on rotation, and despite the desert environment, the resort manages dust impressively. The pools were a standout. I witnessed daily water testing across multiple pools, contradicting reviews claiming otherwise. The water is crystal clear — any brownish tone comes from the Moroccan tile flooring, not dirty water. The water park is fun, clean, and well‑supervised. The air‑conditioning in our room was extremely effective. When used correctly (cooling mode + fan), it cooled the room to 17°C, which is more than adequate for Marrakech’s climate. The spa was welcoming, spotless, and professionally run. Treatments were relaxing and delivered with care. The free shuttle to and from the Medina (bookable in advance) is a brilliant addition and removes the need to walk through the surrounding regeneration area. Food was fine — we’re not big foodies, and we found enough variety to be satisfied. Fridges filled with bottled water are available throughout the resort, which is a thoughtful and practical touch. Rooms include toiletries, shaving kits, sewing kits, and a safe, and the interior décor is beautifully authentic with Moroccan styling throughout the buildings. ⚠️ Negatives The snack bar is slow, and the layout (food in one area, drinks in another) isn’t the most convenient. The area outside the resort is clearly a regeneration zone, which may feel unfinished to some travellers — but the shuttle service means you don’t need to navigate it on foot. There is a deposit for pool towels, which some guests misinterpret as a charge. It is simply a refundable deposit, and understandable given how often towels go missing in large resorts. 🧭 Cultural & International Context A significant portion of negative reviews comes from travellers applying UK or European 5‑star expectations to a Moroccan 5‑star resort. Star ratings differ by country, and Morocco’s system places more emphasis on: • architecture • cultural authenticity • resort scale • facilities and amenities rather than the highly personalised service style some guests expect. Moroccan hospitality is warm, respectful, and non‑intrusive. Staff do not hover or over‑engage unless invited — this is cultural, not a lack of service. It is also fair to expect that staff will primarily speak their native language. Despite this, the team genuinely do their best to communicate, assist, and accommodate guests. I found them warm, helpful, and hardworking. 📝 Final Thoughts Pickalbatros Sungo Club Marrakech is a clean, well‑maintained, friendly resort with excellent pools, strong air‑conditioning, and beautiful Moroccan styling. Many of the negative reviews online stem from misunderstanding the culture, misinterpreting the star rating system, or expecting a service style that simply isn’t part of Moroccan hospitality. I also think it’s important to acknowledge that there appear to be a number of bot‑like reviews circulating online — both overly negative and overly positive. It’s a real shame this seems necessary to counterbalance the impact of extreme or misleading feedback, because it makes it harder for travellers to get an accurate picture of the resort. My review is based solely on my own stay, and I encourage travellers to focus on detailed, experience‑based comments rather than emotionally charged or generic posts. I would absolutely return for a longer stay, and I would happily recommend this hotel to my clients, ensuring they are clear on expectations so they can fully appreciate what the resort — and Morocco — genuinely offer.

We stayed at Pickalbatros Songo Hotel in August 2026 and it was an absolute nightmare for me and my 2 young children. Reception & Staff The reception staff were rude, ill-mannered and miserable. There was no apology and no remorse for anything. Check-in Disaster We arrived at 7pm but were not allowed to check in until 11pm. For 4 hours my children were left hungry with no room and no help from staff. Money Issues Despite paying Love Holidays in full, the hotel demanded a £200 deposit and refused to give us the room until we paid it. To this day they have not explained what the deposit was for. We are still being deceived. Room & Cleanliness The room was not cleaned for 3 days. On check-out day we still had no towels and had to go and find them ourselves. Food The food was disgusting and not suitable. Overall this hotel showed complete disregard for families. The staff were unwelcoming, unprofessional and dishonest. I would never return and I do not recommend Pickalbatros Songo Hotel to anyone, especially families with children.

From the moment I stepped into this hotel, my god I’ve never been to a terrible place like this full of such miserable staff. Firstly, dragged my own suitcase up to the lobby as no staff to help you. Secondly and this is the best bit. I booked my hotel room through loveholidays website and later I read some reviews about how the hotel pretends that they didn’t get the money and demands you pay more otherwise no room. Two days before I arrived I called my agency and confirmed in writing with them that payment had been made from the broker to the hotel and a room was secured and fully paid for, as I had paid for it to the agency. I had everything in writing. I came to the hotel, the staff member said “there is a problem with your booking. We don’t know what the problem is but we will try to find a solution if you pay £200 more”. This was the same for my friend, who also paid her hotel in full. I arrived at 7:30pm to the hotel, and for hours they were just ignoring me, telling me to sit over there or over here, and one minute and one minute, and then they would go and talk to each other and serve other customers and laugh and joke. I went up to them multiple times and they just kept ignoring me. It was horrendous. I am not used to this type of behaviour and I am a frequent flyer. The woman named Meryem- well she was just disgustingly rude and mean. She kept trying to attack my friend verbally and threatening to call security. Security came and after I explained everything. The security man laughed at her and walked away. That’s how embarrassing it was. I asked them for their names, they refused to give me and they pretended they don’t understand what I’m saying and took off their name badges. Any question I asked them, they said they don’t know and they don’t understand. Other guests staying at the hotel tried to help out and tell the staff that this is not legal what they are doing and that they need to give us a room. But the staff members just looked away. I even tried to put it down to language difference and found a young Moroccan man to translate in their language to understand me that I had the paperwork to confirm that a booking had been made. But no matter who and how many people tried, the staff were just not interested and did not want to listen. They wanted more money and without that they would not give me a room. I agreed to pay but even then they were just taking their time. Telling me to go sit over there and then sniggering behind my back and walking away and doing other things. They made it blatantly clear to me that they are wasting my time and would long it out till the very end. Eventually got my room at 11pm at night, after causing a scene at the hotel for hours. It was so so so bad, so humiliating and embarrassing and exhausting, and top of all this I had an 8 year old and an autistic 6 year old and no man with me. They refused for me to give my kids any food until a room was allocated to me. Went to the room, no shower gel no shampoo. Stained bath towels and ants crawling around the room. Next day called the front office and sadly Salahuddin answered and was again mocking me when I asked for shampoo and shower gel. He told me he would tell the staff to run to me with shampoo and hanged up. One hour and 30mins later. Nothing. I went to the office myself and found a manager. He told me to go back to my room and he would come and speak with me. By 5pm the house keeping finally came and I told them about the toiletries. They had not been passed any message from Salah to send me anything. Next day, no bath towels. They removed my old ones but did not replace it. I asked them, they said 10mins. We were already in the shower at this point. 2 hours later I still didn’t get any towels. The good thing is that in those horrible 5 days I lost 1kg of weight, the food was so bad but brilliant for my waistline. Never happened to me before where I lost weight on holiday. Generally the attitude and behaviour is bad. There is no hospitality here. The reception staff are the worst kind of people I have ever met, and they really believe they are something special. They will go out of their way to make your life a misery. Everyone I met on holiday around the pools also said their experience had been awful.

Hiba and Abdou have been amazing such a fun and exciting holiday and the activities have been so amazing! All the staff are so helpful and always encouraging and fun!
