Donna Hotel Klosterhof

I went to this hotel during a Sherarings holiday. The hotel served buffet style meals for breakfast and dinner. The food was generally of a good standard, I knew there were complaints about food, but I found food generally good. There was a pool on site,but I did not use. Hotel recommended.

This was our base for a Shearings holiday. Very comfortable and immaculately clean. There was plenty of food both at breakfast and dinner, the food wasn't to everyone's taste. Personally I had no problem finding plenty to eat in the evening, I wasn't expecting English food as some seemed to think there should be, it was typically Germanic in a hotel which has mainly German guests. If there was anything to change for me would be the addition of a hospitality tray in the rooms, my only complaint would be the pillows very hard and uncomfortable. But all in all a brilliant good value holiday in a great location in a nice clean comfortable hotel.

The hotel itself is well situated in the village. It was always immaculately clean and was very comfortable. The rooms are above average with a large bed and always lots of hot water. However, there is only one word for the food and that is appalling. This is not based on the fact that it was German food but rather on the fact that everything was lukewarm, very bland and tasteless. The English are segregated from the German guests which led to a them and us feeling (with the Germans coming out on top). The desserts were nothing but angel delight in a different colour every night. Not a different flavour, just a different colour!!! Queuing again was a whole other story. Try upwards of 150 people rushing to one buffet, your worst coach trip nightmare. The organisation could have been so much better. We were all inclusive for drinks etc but this ended at 9pm at night, just when dinner was finished and you were ready for a drink, you had to pay. Lack of information in any other language but German was another issue.

The Klosterhof hotel was our base hotel for six nights with a Shearings tour. The hotel was nice, it 's in a lovely location in the village of Neukirchen with lovely walks and a few gasthofs a short walk away, some with lovely biergartens. There is also two supermarkets nearby and a lovely church. Two banks with ATM's are also situated next to the hotel. When you book in you are given a free bus pass to use throughout your stay, but be aware, the buses aren't frequent. We requested a ground floor room with walk-in shower which was duly provided, although the door opening gap to the shower was quite small and I just about got through, so I would think that a larger person would find it difficult if not impossible to get into the shower cubicle. The room was spacious and clean and because it was on the ground floor we had a terrace with a table and two chairs where we could sit and enjoy a drink. The bed was huge and we had a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed. However, about half of the guests at the hotel were German and quite a few of them had brought children with them. I'm not against children but I found the noise of children running around at up to 11 p.m. at night in the courtyard just by our patio very noisy. In my opinion the food at dinner was very repetitive with only two or three choices, and one of the choices was always pork. There was only one choice of dessert which was chocolate mousse, except for one night when we were treated to bread and butter pudding, abeit with cold custard. Strangely, beer, wine and soft drinks were available on tap to help yourself at dinner, but coffee and tea had to be paid for as was the 2 euros for the bottle of water left in your room. The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast consisting of cold items like cereals, cheese, sliced meats, fruit, etc, and cooked items such as scrambled/boiled eggs and small smoked sausages which was enough choice for even picky eaters, although the powdered scrambled eggs were very dry and not very nice The hotel is run on an inclusive basis which means that beer, wine and soft drinks are included up to 9 p.m. After that they have to be paid for. The inclusive doesn't include tea or coffee which must be paid for. We found some of the bar and restaurant staff a bit sullen, unhelpful and unfriendly. I speak German so I don't think that it was anything to do with language or nationality as some Germans told me that they had the same impression about these workers, that they didn't enjoy the job and didn't want to be there. Being on a Shearings tour we were allocated a seperate room for meals. I don't quite know why, surely it would have been better to have been able for anyone to go into any of the rooms to eat and mix. Instead this created an air of "Them and us", which must have looked bad, especially for the Germans because our room had a big sign on the door saying Shearings, as did every table in our dining room. I don't blame the Germans for coming into our room if there was nowhere to sit in there's, I would have done the same. This "Segregation" seemed to unofficially carry on in the bar where the British sat together and the German guests sat together in one of the two seperate rooms. What a shame. Overall a nice comfortable hotel in a lovely German village with nice views.

The room is huge. 2 beds together to make a very comfy king size, a table and 2 chairs, a large sofa bed, cupbord with tv on top, a double wardrobe.a shared balcony with table and 2 chairs. The bathroom has everything you need, the shower is great, a crack in the sink but causing no problems. Room was spotless on arrival. We find the food good, there is always something to eat even if the combinations are a bit strange to english palettes. Staff friendly if YOU make the effort, you are in Germany people!! Not much information in English but google translate helps and yes we can get the free wifi in our room which is at the opposite end of the hotel to reception. Village very quiet not much around.Cannot see why people moan but have you noticed those that do are always at the front of the queue for food and AI drinks. Maybe they should be booking 5 star holidays at 5 star prices if thats what they expect. Believe me we have a few of these on our coach perhaps the complaining gets them compensation towards their next holiday.
