Africajade Thalasso

I stayed at Africa Jade Thalasso from 8 to 13 October 2026. This is a difficult review because the property itself could be exceptional. The architecture is distinctive, the gardens and hidden corners are attractive, the rooms are spacious with excellent balconies, the pool area is beautifully designed, and the beach has soft sand and clear water. The local food and fresh dinner salads were enjoyable, and the lobby bar team gave the warmest service of our stay. Unfortunately, these positives were outweighed by repeated failures in management, reception, housekeeping, maintenance and safety. Reception often felt like a bottleneck. Room keys stopped working, requiring long walks back to the lobby, and there was no apology. Calls to Reception commonly required five to ten attempts. We found several hotel email addresses, but practical pre-arrival questions went unanswered. We tried to amend the booking directly with the hotel and could not do so. On three occasions I asked to speak with the Duty Manager. Each time I was prevented from making contact and was not given the name of the person in charge. Guest Relations later proposed a management meeting, but it was never arranged. We also experienced a serious taxi-pricing concern. A journey that appeared to cost about 20 dinars locally was quoted or charged at 60 dinars through the hotel. I accept a reasonable service fee, but a threefold markup should be clearly explained and receipted. Other guests described similar experiences, including claims that prepaid transport was later requested again in cash. Management should investigate and make its transfer pricing transparent. Before a 01:30 departure, Reception confirmed that a breakfast bag would be prepared. Nothing was available at check-out, and the response was simply a shrug. When we returned the beach-towel deposit card, the refund was not proactively offered; we had to ask for it. Housekeeping was one of the weakest areas. A pillow was torn and filling was coming into the bed. Replacing it required four calls and three visits to Reception. We found long black hairs in the bed more than once, stained linen, a sheet with what appeared to be lipstick, and towels with holes. Dirt remained behind the room and bathroom doors. The toilet-roll holder was heavily soiled, and the toilet-brush holder had visible urine staining. A short use of the Do Not Disturb sign around midday was later used to justify the room not being attended for the rest of the day. The room itself was large and had a very good balcony, but the beds and furniture need refreshing. The room was marketed with a bathtub, yet plugs had been removed from both the bathtub and sink. This left an awkward shower-over-bath arrangement with a curtain rather than a practical shower enclosure. Breakfast was consistently disorganised. Coffee was served in paper cups. Suitable spoons and bowls were generally missing, even though yoghurt and cereal were offered. During our stay I did not obtain a cereal bowl on a single day. Plates were not replenished promptly, and guests sometimes took clean plates directly from dishwasher carts. Tables might have only a knife or only a fork. Tablecloths were stained and looked poorly laundered. There were initially only two coffee machines for a large breakfast room. When one broke, it was unplugged and left out of service. Guests in that queue had to join the back of the remaining queue, and the second machine was not restored during our stay. Waiting around 15 minutes for coffee became normal. Dinner had positives: the local food and fresh salads were often good, and a few waiters were friendly. However, the dining room was extremely noisy, used plates accumulated on tables, and service often appeared focused on getting through the shift rather than caring for guests. Many attractive small bars and outlets, including a crêperie, were closed, making the resort feel partly shut down. No one clearly explained the towel-card system at arrival. The pool towels we received had visible salt marks and did not appear freshly washed. Broken and uncomfortable beach loungers remained upside down in the same places for several days. Beach security was useful, but visible maintenance problems were not addressed. The beach bar did not allow room charges, which is impractical for non-all-inclusive guests who do not want to carry cards or cash while swimming. My most serious concern was the gym. None of the cardio equipment was operational: treadmills, an elliptical trainer and a bike were broken. Parts were scattered on the floor, dirt had accumulated beneath machines, the air conditioning did not work, protective covers were missing and electrical cables had exposed wiring. Staff indicated that the machines had been broken for a long time. I recommended that the gym be closed immediately for safety, but it remained open and unchanged on subsequent days. The hotel promotes its spa identity, but spa access was not included. A separately charged spa is not unusual, but this should be clearer before booking. Wi-Fi covered much of the hotel, although it became unreliable when occupancy increased over the weekend. Public areas also suffered from flies, stained cushions and furniture that looked inviting but was hard and uncomfortable. These issues reinforce the impression of a beautiful hotel receiving too little maintenance and care. The central problem was the lack of ownership. We were offered paid upgrades, but nobody followed up our actual complaints or checked whether promised actions had been completed. The resort does not only need more staff; it needs visible management, training, preventive maintenance and a genuine guest perspective. Africa Jade is a gem that needs polishing, deep cleaning and serious operational leadership. I wanted to like it and can clearly see what it could become. Based on this stay, however, I cannot recommend it without major improvements, particularly in safety, hygiene, reception conduct and management follow-up.

Been here about the fifth time. Food is excellent. Be sure not to only eat the European food, the Tunisian is really something. Beautiful beach, nice animation without trying to make you do anything. Have fun, Kai from Germany

You can really feel that they care about their guests and want everyone to have a wonderful time. Africa Jade is a beautiful hotel with a unique African charm, a fantastic animation team, warm-hearted staff, and an atmosphere that makes you feel at home from the very beginning.
